I like this better than the second single. It’s light and airy and sort of reminds me of something the band would do during the sad songs for dirty lovers era when they were experimenting more with different kinds of rock music.
I like it. Bonnet of Pins is the strongest, but I still think it's 3/3 so far. Shaping up to be better than Serpentine, which I was lukewarm on.
This is really good so far. Some new vocal cadences he's playing with (Frozen Oranges and Nowhere Special). Overall I could see this eventually landing above the last few National albums
Def boring but also not bad imo, the lowers stakes of a solo album make that less offensive to me than the last two nationals. Also other than smoke detector the first time since easy to find that a berninger product isn’t saddled w the weight of sounding like songs that were done better on evermore
I like this whole album more than the last two national albums but my god the one two punch of nowhere special and little by little is just…chefs kiss
A lot of this speaks to me after the collapse of a relationship I was in earlier this year. No Love... fuck you Matt lmao, I feel so attacked
I enjoyed this a lot. Matt definitely sounds awesome. Only one song on here that I didn't really care for, but I only got to listen to the album once. Can't wait to really spend some time with this.
I have not had enough time to listen to this. Every time I put it on, my ear gets drawn away to the new Ben Kweller album which has been a huge surprise and return to form for a low key old school Kweller head like myself. I also think I’m generally not in a place where kinda pretty, kinda interesting Marty B is grabbing me. I can declare it better than his first one though through my half-baked first 1.5 listens.
Album is beautiful. I wish the first duet was a little more interesting musically, because there's some really fun, subtle stuff happening on most of the other songs. Reminds me of Matt as a modern day lounge singer.
