yeah these trailers are wack lol

 

This having Red Scare Dasha in it is not a great sign

 

I figured the marketing for this was trying to reach a certain audience, so the trailers didnt really bother me, but it’s still nice to hear this from a good critic:

 

I love the advertising for this.

 

I've heard its much quieter and sadder than the marketing will let you believe, which is kind of the point. Anyway, seeing it this weekend. The screenings I was looking at were really full. Might be playing like a date movie for a market deeply starved for that sort of thing

 

As someone who works in tech recruitment, this movie made me feel so seen

 

She just makes really good movies huh

 

sitting down for this in a minute, screening totally sold out which is a good sign

 

yeah this was good but a bit more intermittently than Past Lives was. some really shaky dialogue like that flashback argument scene but "it's hard for me to feel like this isn't about the legs" is one of the funniest lines I've heard in years

hope Evans gets more roles like this down the track he was great in this

 

also shoutout to the actor who played Sophie, three scenes in the movie and she absolutely stole the show

 

Zoe Winters - she's awesome in Succession too

 

I clocked her literally in her last shot lol. So good

 

Who can believe Dakota Johnson's best work would be playing a self aware sociopath

 

I kinda loved this. The group I was with all really liked it but with varying feelings of surprise by the tone and the type of movie it actually was.

It's of a piece with Past Lives. Where as traditional "romcoms" have hijinks and misunderstandings, instead we have sad monologues and lots of longing. I get the B- cinemascore considering how A24 marketed it (classic bait and switch move by them but if you are familiar with Celine Song's previous work it's not surprising at all).

Perfectly written role for Dakota Johnson's little demon energy

 

I was really put off by DJ's robotic line reads for the first 30 minutes but it really made sense by the end of the movie. she sold the transformation of her character really well

 

Considering this is only Celine Song's second film, the way her characters speak is still something we're getting used to. Maybe like Tarantino or Shyamalan characters, it will eventually be more recognizable as her signature tone of voice.

 

Already looking forward to seeing this, but this is a perfect sales hook for me.

This felt really true to some of my dating experiences and I appreciated how melancholy and cynical it was about the whole thing

 

Really want to see this but every screening is pretty much sold out except for 1030pm. May try to go one afternoon this week after work.

 

Made $12 million over the weekend. Pretty solid for an A24 movie.
