I listened to half of this on my way to work today, and while I'm enjoying it, I miss the days when the band had a little more aggression and energy in their music. I felt that missing when they put out North, and I feel it here.
This right here!! exactly my thoughts. still enjoy it, but would like a little more edge to the music.
"Rebels" and "Queen of New York City" have been my favorites so far. Not an album of theirs I'll return to a ton, I don't think, as I also wish it were a little less sleepy. I don't need something angsty out of them at this point in their career, just a little more upbeat in spots.
They're pretty old at this point haha, I am pleased with this as a late-career album. I never expected it to be back with their glory days, but it's far far far from bad
Side note, I just realized that the time between this album and North was basically the same as from More Than You Think You Are to North was, really crazy
I had the same thought while listening to it over the weekend. The songs are good, but the album definitely leans more pop than rock. I can't recall one memorable guitar riff and that's unfortunate.
Seeing them tonight in Phoenix! First time since 2017. I liked the new album. I really like both singles, One Hit Love, and Queen of New York City. Pleasantly surprised.
Just got my shipping notification for the vinyl. Pleasantly surprised it was only a month delay. After the box set ordeal that feels like nothing haha
Wrote about this band and about "Friends," probably my favorite song of the 2020s so far. My Life In 35 Songs, Track 33: “Friends” by Matchbox Twenty
