And Against Me! and Planes Mistaken for Stars! I was lucky enough to catch it, but Mastodon didn't actually play my date because Brent was "sick", but I still got everyone but Bill to sign my poster.
I thought Planes Mistaken for Stars was on there but completely blanked on Against Me. Such a rad tour. That was a great era for all of those bands too.
It’s fantastic. Bummed me out people were saying they don’t go back to it much. Tho I get it, it’s very dense/long.
That’s a big part of it, that and it just doesn’t have those hooks that make Mastodon’s stuff so memorable.
This still rules but I'm itching for the follow up. Especially since Bill said that listening to Turnstile has inspired him to write some shorter, heavier songs.
H&G is probably my least favorite mastodon album. I am ok with longer songs but it’s the first album that I found some parts just not that interesting
I’d like it more if it didn’t have the most exhausting production, but yeah, it’s also pretty bloated. When it hits it hits pretty hard though.
I cooled off on it because there's a string of 3/4 songs towards the middle / last third with the same vibe and tempo that just make it drag too. I feel like we're still at least one year removed from a follow up but it'd be rad to hear new music sooner.
Brann does full play throughs of Capillarian Crest, The Wolf is Loose, The Last Baron, The Motherload, and Pushing the Tides. Just absolutely bonkers what that man can do. I don't know how he has the stamina to make it through a full set, especially when he has to sing as well.
this never grew on me but it does serve well as one of my go to sleeping albums. out like a light by tracks 3/4 no exception
I still love this album but I’d return to it more if it was a little shorter. Brann is out of this world talented.
