Definitely going to need quite a few listens to process everything, but on my first listen I had the biggest grin on my face during this one. A banger.
About to give this a listen. Between ETID, this and Converge coming up, what a solid few weeks for heavy music!
i love the brent songs a lot, but my faves from my listen last night were "more than i could chew," "dagger" and motherfucking "savage lands"
Du fuq. "The Atlanta metal band’s new double album is its least ambitious collection yet" Mastodon: Hushed and Grim I'm totally cool with lower scores for w/e the reviewer wants, but this reads like they didn't even listen to the album.
Had It All is dope, so far I'm loving how much proggier this is than Emperor of Sand. I thought it was just going to be longer/more songs, but it really isn't the same type of straightforward strong structures like Emperor of Sand had (I love EOS btw).
i do not get the pfork review, makes this out to be dull alt-rock sludge when it's p easily the proggiest thing they've done since crack the skye
Yeah - let's just disregard the 'review'. The fact that y'all have mentioned NINE different songs on this page alone as being personal faves speaks to the quality. Lots to unwrap here, I'm only about halfway but really digging it.
gosh I'm trying to like this but it's really not hitting right. I say that as a yuge fan of the entire back catalog. leviathan tangibly changed my life. hope it's a grower.
