If it's the chorus of Oblivion is Brent. Brann does the verses and Troy does the pre-chorus. CTS is great, but it's also Brann's first album on vocals. He improves a lot over time.
he’s great when he’s more yelling or screaming like on divinations, but i don’t love it as much when he’s cleanly singing
Yeah you hit the nail on the head. Those were the ones I had in mind when I said he's nailed the sound he's going for. I think everyone deserves a little grace in the vocal dept on Crack The Skye because that was the first album where they had primarily clean singing, and like was previously mentioned, Brann's first time on vocals at all.
If I want a Mastodon fix, it's always Remission or Leviathan. Those early riffs give me that good nostalgia buzz.
Blood Mountain is fucking awesome. I liked Crack the Skye, but I feel like these first three records are really going to be for me.
So my favorites of the first four, on first listen, are Blood Mountain and Remission. I enjoyed all four though. I'm excited to spend more time with them and move forward.
Ah man, a bummer, but one that isn't surprising. Very fascinated with who they have fill in/replace (can't really replace him though) for the tour/future albums.
It seemed the writing had been on the wall for a minute, but still sad to see him go. Really curious how that will affect their sound moving forward.
Gonna be honest, I get it, but just replacing your lead guitarist and vocalist after 25 years and going, all Mastodon touring and writing is straight ahead. Like ok I’m gonna need a minute. It’s not the same band. At the very least their arena level headlining days are probably over
I haven't really been into much post-CtS except for Cold Dark Place, so it bums me out more as an idea than as something that might change their sound.
Seeing them with Coheed in May (in an arena, no less lol) will definitely be different. Very curious if they pull a known-name given that's a few months away or if they get a friend to rip with them.
brent is a piece of shit and hasn’t been a major part of the band outside of solos for a while. won’t be missed. bill is a shredder too i wouldn’t be surprised if they just continue as a three piece
Man this really shocked me. But based on what I’ve been reading online it sounds like it’s been a long time coming? Apparently Brent’s hinted in interviews that he hasn’t really been interested in making that type of music anymore and it also seems that he intentionally diminished his writing role in the band, which also really surprised me. Curious to see what happens next
