That solo at the end of Words to the Wise is the best.

 

I don't dislike Once More Round the Sun or The Hunter I just think this one is a clear tier above them


This one immediately caught me and Once More Round the Sun really didn't

 

Half way through first listen and I'm having a lovely time.

 

The new album is solid. Better than The Hunter or OMRTS for sure.

 

I liked the last 2 records (and all their albums), and on first listen this one is great too.

Real into this on first listen. Only gripe I have is the auxiliary percussion (shakers, tambourines, bells) tracks are distractingly loud on every song. Sometimes overtaking whatever cymbal work Brann is doing.

 

Time to listen.

Never thought I'd root for a Mastodon bus crash. Happy for death

 

Holy hell "Steambreather" and "Roots Remain" are amazing songs.

 

Album is massive. I think Once More might be a little better, but this is really good.

 

I'm diggin it.

 

Haven't had time to listen yet with all the other great album released recently. Hoping to spend some time with it this weekend.

 

Can we talk about how all 3 singers really brought it on this album? I think it was in the Rolling Stone article where Brann said the band said they wanted to take what they thought was their weakest link (vocals) and make them really special on this record it.

Gotta digest this more but so far after 2 listens I like it more than The Hunter but less than Crack The Skye and OMATS. Those are high bars though, this album is real good. "Jaguar God" is a hell of a closer.

Wow, just got done with my first listen. I'm pressing play again

 

Steambreather might be the most infectious riff they've ever penned.

 

Great natural progression toward a sound they've been working toward for the last two albums.

 

The closer is so goddamn good but my favorite track might be Ancient Kingdom. Total power metal chorus and I love it.

 

The main riff on"Precious Stones" is currently my personal favorite.
