i want you is the best album ever made

here, my dear and midnight love the second and third best albums ever made

which is no shade against what's going on, a masterpiece in its own right

maybe my favorite artist of all time

 

I listened to Midnight Love for the first time recently and it's just heartbreaking to hear him go out on top like that, with a sense that he was turning his life around

 

Yeah he had such a great new vein of material there. It's like Lennon's murder. They clearly hadn't finished making vital albums yet.

 

Currently filling in some gaps that i've missed in his post What's Going On discography and been spinning I Want You and In Our Lifetime these past couple of days. So good.

 

Anti-disco bias means that In Our Lifetime is perpetually underrated.

 

Which is odd because it's not even that disco. It has disco elements, sure. But it's Gaye's version of it, which is nothing like your typical disco song/album.

 

People's feelings about disco are rarely rational:

 

Yeah, the night disco died is such a weird fucking thing. I know it was EVERYWHERE at the time, but to do all they did is madness.

I can’t imagine getting that angry about any genre of music!

 

50 years old. About to give it another spin.

 

Doesn't look like this documentary was ever released? That's six years ago now that it was announced.
