So, just for films, we're looking at: 5/1/20 - Black Widow 11/6/20 - The Eternals 2/12/21 - Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 5/7/21 - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 11/5/21 - Thor: Love and Thunder Future dates booked by Disney for Marvel: 2/18/22 5/6/22 7/29/22 I'd guess that 2022 is Black Panther in February, GOTG3 in May and Captain Marvel in July, but I could definitely see the July date being changed with the other properties Disney has scheduled too. Either way, I'm excited for all the new films and series. I will be getting Disney+ on day one. Also, THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE, becoming the Goddess of Thunder is one of my most-anticipated things in MCU history.
Those are all Disney dates, not Marvel Studios dates, right? As in, not for Spider-Man films. Since they have to make a Spider-Man film every 3 years to retain their rights, next year would be too soon for the next one, & that's already 3 MCU releases a year... Definitely wonder what their plans will be for that. Guess you could still squeeze a July 2021 release between Strange & Thor, especially since there will be no more Fox Marvel films to compete with, though FOUR MCU films in one year would be a LOT.
So stoked on Thor. Never thought they'd bring Natalie back. Even in Endgame, they just used old footage of her and then didn't even really show her when Rocket stole the Aether from her, right? I think I'm most excited for Thor and Dr. Strange. Blade sounds cool but I've never seen the original movies or read anything about him other than him popping up in an issue of Ultimate Spider-Man Also I never thought they'd announce anything F4 related for awhile. Fuck yeah.
If you had told me 7 years ago as I walked out of Avengers that HAWKEYE would be my most anticipated MCU project, I'd have laughed in your face
As an actress, being able playing Thor will be a new challenge so I’m sure that peaked her interest along with Taika. Just playing a normal version of Jane would have been dull and I doubt she would have signed on for it.
Disney dates are Marvel Studios dates. Outside of Disney/MCU, Marvel Studios is only directly involved on Spider-Man himself, not Venom, Morbius, Into the Spider-Verse, etc. After Fox selling, that's really the only other studio now. For Sony, this is all they have scheduled: 7/31/20 - Morbius 10/2/20 - Venom 2 For Spider-Man, the plan was a movie every two years. (Sony's really the one to instigate that.) Though, right now, I don't think anyone's talking about it, but Sony/Marvel's deal is likely up. The agreement was Marvel steering Spider-Man across 5 films, which was Civil War, Homecoming, Infinity War, Endgame, and Far From Home. For now, I assume they're negotiating again after Far From Home is close to passing $1 billion. For Disney/Marvel, 2021 is kind of debatable. The Batman hits 6/25. Disney has an Indiana Jones sequel planned for 7/9. 2022 seems a bit more feasible with Disney already having 7/8 for a live action film and little competition in the week before and after the 7/1 holiday weekend. We'll see I guess, but the biggest thing is that, technically, the Disney/Sony deal is up.
I didn't realize Sony had to make a Spidey film every 3 years to retain the rights, that's a super short period of time. Does it specifically have to be a movie starring Spider-Man, or do the Morbious and Venom movies count enough to retain full rights to him, even if he isn't featured in them?
I'm pretty sure those characters count. Obviously don't know exactly what the contract says, but I assume Sony got all the Spider-Man characters as sort of a package deal and so long as they use those rights in some capacity, they get to maintain the rights
Trust me, I know how the whole Disney/Marvel/Sony rights line up, lol. I was just confirming which organization announced the dates, whether it was Disney (so, not Spider-Man) or Marvel Studios (so, potentially Spider-Man). Which, this reminds me of how complicated this whole thing is. As in, what's Disney's motivation to shuffle their dates around, especially now that they have even more to work with after acquiring Fox, if it's only to give Sony a good box office slot? Marvel Studios really is in a weird place where they need to keep Sony happy, while also fitting into Disney's machinery, while also carefully navigating the schedule of films released within their world/brand. So, like, if Disney's shareholders are set on having a blockbuster released on 7/29/22, w/ Sony's restriction how long they can wait between films, Sony kinda has to go w/ either July 2021 or Nov/Dec 2022. By the way, all evidence points towards this being a 6-film deal, not five. Tom was, in his own words, signed on for 3 Spider-Man films & 3 Marvel films.
We technically don't know. I think most are just taking that aspect from the Fox contracts or confusing it with the story that Sony wanted to put out a new Spider-Man movie every two years. Sony has the rights and the only way for Marvel to get them back is by purchasing the rights back. The big thing is that Sony sold the merchandise rights to Spider-Man back to Marvel in 2011. While, yes, these movies are doing well now, it just lowers their profits a bit. While the rights are an issue, I'd argue that Marvel still ahead in this deal. First, Marvel pays nothing on production for the actual Spider-Man films. Second, Sony probably has to worry about future success if they cut Marvel out of managing the whole creative and visual production of these films. Beyond that, Marvel is just raking it in with the merchandise because, recently, Spider-Man has by far been the top earning individual hero in merchandise sales.
I am really excited about the Doctor Strange and Thor movie. Never thought I would say that a few years ago but those two have really grown on me.
These Disney+ shows being integral is going to make a legit MCU re-watch nearly impossible. Blessed with a curse.
Yeah unless those shows are very small seasons, it will be tougher. At least we have the first generation as all films mostly
So is David Harbour's character a good guy or a bad guy? Tried to read up a little bit on Red Guardian and I feel like I'm reading conflicting things about his character
