I wonder if these movies ever get to the point where heroes just get recast and the stories continue rather than having to reboot and retell origin stories and begin new “universes”
I think they'll have to have some form of overarching story from the get go, but just be very subtle about it during the first phase of the next saga. I don't see casual movie goers continuing to spend money if the movies aren't connected in someway other than, yeah this character exists in the same world and we'll just have a namedrop. The MCU films began to make more money once the films started to become more intertwined with one another because once it leads to a story that invests all the characters the casual audience is more invested in each individual story.
It's kinda wild to think how groundbreaking that type of storytelling was/is for the MCU and movies in general. I remember seeing Iron Man in theaters thinking it was a one off (which I loved)... now it just seems so much of a given that they're all intertwined.
Same. I even thought Guardians would be a one-off film after the first Avengers already came out. Ever since Ant-Man I've known every new character will be involved in the Avenger films, which personally rose my interest in each one by a little.
Wonder if we'll ever get to see live-action female Iron-Man/Thor/Wolverine and POC Spider-Man/anyone else I missed (haha... I don't read.)
My ultimate dream is for Daphne Keen to be X23 in the MCU. Never going to happen but it should. She was phenomenal and its a shame well probably never see her play Laura again.
tbh, they need to respond by making the threats smaller not larger. like, there's only so much "he wants to destroy the earth/takeover the earth/destroy the galaxy/takeover the galaxy" you can do before we won't really take it seriously. i tend not to like these huge world ending type threats myself
I’d like to see White Tiger appear soon. We haven’t had a major Latino character yet so White Tiger would be a good choice. Hector could be the start or they could jump straight to Ava.
Kang can be as big of a threat as Thanos if they go down that route. If they do start the overarching narrative I would at least want to get through phase 4 without it being apparent. Until the last film of phase 1 we didn't even know of an overarching theme (minus Loki being the villain in two films and the tesseract). The idea of the tesseract seemed like 1-2-done deal just to connect the Avengers. I would like to see X-Men films that focus on themselves instead of the larger Marvel universe.
Do the Avengers ever clash with the entirety of the X-Men in the comics? Also I think seeing Tom Holland interact with Logan and Kitty Pryde on screen would make me pretty happy as an Ultimate Spider-Man lover
I'm the wrong guy to answer this since I don't read the comics, but I know there's been at least one event they did.
They’re most likely gonna do Fantastic Four in the near future because they’re gonna need more familiar Marvel heroes to replace the departed ones and let’s be honest, Doctor Doom is an all time great villain and I can definitely see him being the next big bad dude in an Avengers event.
It’s s good sign that Reynolds Deadpool will still exist after this due to him being featured on the front of the Disney site.
Probably less that they want to promote Atlanta, more that Donald Glover is one of the biggest stars in the world currently so sure let’s slap his picture on our site.
Easily. Dr. Doom, Galactus, Kang, Mephisto for starters. I think Galactus makes the most sense based on the characters they are introducing, but I'd be super down for a trip to Hell. It bums me out that they squandered Hela (who I don't think is really gone), Ultron and Dormammu because they are all really great villains and could be much much more threatening. I just don't want them to do Kang right now since we are doing time travel right now.
Yeah, like, I wanna see Kang & Galactus & Doom, & wouldn't mind seeing Ultron again... But, Avengers movies as event comics are unnecessary. You can bring these different characters together & still tell a solid, standalone, character-driven story that isn't all about a team being formed and/or disassembled. If Endgame doesn't end with a set Avengers roster, then Avengers 5 ("New Avengers"?) will probably have to have a big threat to justify reassembling, as lame as repeating the first Avengers' structure would be. But, what I'd want is a series of Avengers films that, like Guardians or X-Men, works as its own set of films. Something that doesn't feel like a crossover or event, but rather feels like a story in a classic Avengers monthly comic. Like, bring back Zemo & make an Avengers: Under Siege film. THAT would be good. As much as I want a film that centers on a Latinx character (which Miles Morales could do, or a Young Avengers film where America Chavez is the central character), White Tiger would probably be best in a supporting role. I would love to see him (or her), though. Could work w/ a college-aged Spidey story, if Hector, though the best place would probably be a Shang-Chi film. Say what you will about Dark Phoenix, but it does look like it's gonna be the first X-Men film to get Cyclops right. Part of me would love the MCU's X-Men to follow Scott's story, but after 2 decades of X-Men films centering white dudes, I'd rather see them focus on Storm & Jubilee.
