It would have been really cool if they did that. Like, you can still have it be a fish-out-of-water story without doing the white savior thing. There's some great Iron Fist stories in the comics, he's one of my favorites. There was a cool story or two where he was training a young Asian girl named Pei to be the next Iron Fist, but Marvel seems to have just forgotten she exists. Which sucks because she ruled.
If Shang-Chi 2 actually dives into Agents of Atlas, Fan Fei, Wu Ao-Shi, or Colleen could easily be brought into the films and the greater MCU. Didn’t the Wakanda show introduce an ancient Iron Fist?
Hmm I’m still not sure how committed Marvel is to bringing their animated characters into live action, but they certainly have options when it comes to exploring Iron Fist
I don’t like the idea of Colleen Wing being an Iron Fist. Just let her run around with her sword and her “good friend” Misty Knight. Just bring in the most recent Iron Fist from the comics. He’s who has the mantle in Marvel Rivals, which means he’s probably now the most famous one to the average person.
She can still do that while wielding the Fist though. She even put the power of the Fist into her sword at the end of Season 2.
Enough time has passed since the end of that series that most people don’t care about that this could easily get hand waved. And, she already has a niche without it. Would be such a silly decision to start playing with Iron Fist in an active way and not bring in the Rivals guy.
There’s finite space to tell stories within this world. And also, we don’t need every plot and subplot from a canceled series revived a decade later. At least when I like an unpopular thing, I don’t pretend it’s more popular than it is. And, when I do occasionally argue for an unrealistic scenario where something weird I like is revisited, I understand that it’d make more sense to do a new thing with it, not a direct sequel. (Fandom also imo needs to relearn how to not get everything they “want” imo!)
Lin Lie was also a member of the new Agents of Atlas before he became the new Iron Fist. I’m once again asking Marvel to please introduce the team in Shang-Chi 2 NetEase (creator of Lin Lie and Rivals) is a bad company though. To this day I still can’t bring myself to play Rivals.
