some fun kills for sure but I thought they coulda gone a bit crazier with it. just saw last night a kill in Luke Cage s2 that was way gnarlier than anything in this Punisher Special Presentation
I never saw season 2 because I think it came out after they had announced the cancellation of the Netflix shows so I was like what’s the point. But now that I think about it, I can’t remember anything about season 1 either. Think I’ll watch the special then go back and rewatch the series
It felt like an aggressively pointed social critique and not subtle at all when Punisher interviewed Shia LeBeauf on his podcast and then he tied up a group of internet commenters who criticized him and accused him of irresponsibly rehabilitating Shia’s image and he punched all their computers so they couldn’t go online anymore. What did that even have to do with the themes or plot of Punisher???
That Hatebreed needle drop made me laugh out loud, wasn’t expecting that at all. But yeah, this was great. But I just want more Frank now
The more I think about this, the more I am really pleased with what they were trying to do and it being a good yarn but also irritated that it doesn't make much sense in continuity. Besides the fact that Frank very clearly killed everyone involved with his family's murder in Punisher Season One, in Season Two he seems a lot more stable and a lot more willing to help on behalf of other people, which is what this special changed him into in the end. So it makes more sense between Season One and Two, and not between Two and BA. Just kind of irks me not being able to neatly square it.
It’s from when Punisher confronts a guy who made a weird joke about Jon Bernthal’s podcast on Chorus.fm and he tells the guy he’s going to shoot his phone two times so he can’t access Chorus.fm anymore and the guy says “What the hell are you talking about?”
Is it that I should watch the Punisher special even if my brain still keeps the Netflix Marvel shows in a separate category and this continues to prevent me from watching anything from that world after Daredevil season 2 including the revival series?
In my reality, Daredevil goes straight from being all beat up or whatever he was when he had those wraps or bandages on in season 2 to being at Peter’s house or She-Hulk’s house or whichever he does first. I watched 1 episode of the revival Disney+ show and it felt like I had to have seen the 20+ episodes I missed to have any connection to what was going on. And I never saw the other Netflix shows so I haven’t gotten any Punisher content in my personal MCU canon. That’s why I had to draw from my Jon Bernthal head canon for my award-winning Chorus.fm joke.
Getting Beau Is Afraid vibes from Punisher these first 10 minutes, which honestly kinda fits this character.
I really need to give Beau Is Afraid another chance, I was like way too high on my initial viewing and felt like I was sitting in on Ari Aster with his therapist in a session about his mom issues.
