Truly don’t understand not wanting a movie to be good? Or that movies shouldn’t try and be good? What are we talking about?
I'm trying to have a normal non-antagonizing conversation about something. I know it’s hard for us sometimes to not be dicks to each other, but I would like to give it a try. You good with that, Grim?
I wasn’t trying to be antagonistic I just truly don’t understand saying a movie isn’t supposed to be good or whatever was said on the last page. Just giving my opinion. Enjoy what you want. My post in the MCU thread on chorus shouldn’t ruin that for you.
Anyway, my interpretation of that post isn't that you can't expect comic book films to be good but that you should be judging them by their own merits instead of holding them to the same standard as other genres of film. And I think that makes sense. You wouldn't compare a horror film to a drama film, it's purpose is completely different and so the metric should match. Edit: Like the first goal of these films is to entertain, and as long as it meets that goal, it's done what it set out to do.
Movies with more value than a good portion of Marvel Studios’ content. (How soon before someone makes a very lazy Madame Web comment lol.)
Yes, and the counterpoint was "Marvel shouldn't have a lower bar than any other film." Both of which are valid points, just more a reflection of how individual users view these movies.
I don't agree that "okay by Marvel standards" is "bad by regular standards" anymore than the reverse, but I think this just comes down to different people having different ideas about what makes a bad film. It's easy to assume a person is making an exception for Marvel simply because there are so many Marvel films, and if you already hate the majority, you're forming a baseline by which you're judging everyone else.
I think the point initially was giving a little more leeway to comic book movies because they're blockbusters and meant to be more surface level so some users provide them with a bit more of a pass, or grade them easier whereas the otherside is saying "well they've done excellent films before so they're capable, so i'm unwilling to give them that leeway" Again, both fine and valid, I think it's better to understand that posters are viewing these things differently.
I don't think I'm giving them special leeway. They're okay marvel films and okay films overall. ppl are treating 6s and 7s like they're 3s and 4s
I think people just have different opinions and we don't need to look for reasons to systematically and wholesale discount those opinions as invalid.
