I think this further adds fuel to the rumor that an Avengers vs X-Men film will be released in 2020 and will also be announced at this years Comic-Con. Being that Bryan Singer hinted about seeing some of the "Phoenix" in Jean in Apocalypse and rumors spinning of the next X-Men film in that timeline being about the Phoenix, I really don't know how Fox and Disney will work an Avengers vs X-Men movie because there is no way X-Men is getting rebooted.
I wish Fox would dump Bryan Singer. It's been almost 20 years and while a movie or two has been okay to pretty good, they've completely failed to mine one of comics richest character playgrounds for anything substantial.
Yeah, I have just about no antipition for Apocalypse. Would be way more interested in a reboot of the franchise.
Movies with Bryan Singer involved X-Men - Bryan Singer (director & writer) RT scores - 81% by critics 83% by audience X2: X-Men United - Bryan Singer (director & writer) RT scores - 86% by critics 85% by audience X-Men: First Class - Bryan Singer (producer) RT scores - 87% by critics 87% by audience X-Men: Days of Future Past - Bryan Singer (director & writer) RT scores - 91% by critics 92% by audience We'll see how Apocalypse does in May Now, core X-Men films without Singer involved (no Deadpool) X-Men: The Last Stand RT scores - 58% by critics 62% by audience X-Men Origins: Wolverine RT scores - 38% by critics 59% by audience If anyone can tell me a good reason that Fox would want to get rid of Singer then please inform me of it. IMO, the only thing I would like to see more are some costumes that are not just black. I would be more nervous of Disney getting X-Men than if they were to continue under Fox and under Singer's supervision.
I think Deadpool, DOFP, and First Class were all good, but I didn't love any of them. The only X-Men film I love is X2, which was over a decade ago. They've used Wolverine a million times but never made a good solo film for him. They have great women like Storm (a WOC!) and Kitty Pryde that are utilized terribly. The wasted potential is so frustrating.
I think Storm will be used greatly in Apocalypse and any future movie. The decision to make her a horsemen was strange but I feel like it will be for a reason that really adds a good punch to her character growth from the beginning to end. In the first 3 films, they has a whole ensemble to worry about (not to mention Wolverine). With the younger films, they seem to take on characters a movie at a time and it's easier to focus on them.
The first three and Wolverine never did interest me either. I honestly think it's because of the actors (Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, etc.) which is another reason I will be bummed out if they reboot it. I don't think they will find actors with the same charisma. Oscar Issac is bound to be good as Apocalypse.
I just think the whole universe is getting stale and while I enjoyed DoFP, I'm interested in seeing someone else shake things up. X3 and Origins being atrocious doesn't make the other ones great, imo.
How did 59% of audiences have favorable opinions of Origins? That's the only superhero movie I've hated
yeah they are all great actors, I guess at this point I feel like there would be so much catching up there's also this, hard to support him
First Class was a great breath of fresh air, then dofp from what I remember was meh. Gonna watch the rogue cut tomorrow though.
Writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty) will serve as showrunner. Marvel and Netflix are expected to make an official statement later today. Here’s the show’s first teaser image:
