Why? We don't know that there wasn't an Uncle Ben, we just didn't need to see that event play out for the hundredth time. Do you really need that re-enacted?
It’s like Batman, we know his parents got iced in an alley but we got that from the launch, we don’t need to go back.
There’s problem a timeline where Tony gave Peter the “responsibility” speech before he died in Endgame
Because he is fundamentally important to Peter Parker as a character. The fact that Peter had two movies without ever hearing "with great power must also come great responsibility" is insane. Uncle Ben's speech is the only reason he became a superhero! He was otherwise just exploiting his powers for cash in the comics until his death I would be 100% ok if we never saw Uncle Ben, but he should at least be talked about
Comics Peter=! MCU Peter. It's not important that we see it play out. It's not important that we hear it talked about so a box can be ticked. The lesson can be demonstrated without having to see the same scene again and again.
Peter’s comments in Civil War were enough for me. I thought it was a solid introduction to MCU Peter.
MCU Spidey was done right imo, you drop him into the mix and just accept him as a part of the universe with no explanation.
I don't think that honoring something that is fundamental to who a character is at their core is just ticking a box haha. Tom's Peter just isn't for me, unfortunately. But, the movies are fun enough, and I'm glad others enjoy his movies more than I do
I mean, he does hear the line from May. I’m not the biggest fan of MCU Spidey for how they did all that. But it is there. Before that happened though, I always found what Peter tells Tony in Civil War functionally served the same purpose. That if you see something wrong and have the power to stop it and you don’t, it’s on you.
But what part is fundamental? The lesson. Everything else is honestly secondary, confusing the content for the container. At least that's how I see it.
The lesson is supposed to be why he becomes a superhero in the first place though, not a couple years down the line. Idk. I don't like it haha.
BUT I shall get off my soapbox and be grateful that there is such a large variety of great Spider-Man content to choose from that can satisfy anybody
One could argue what he says in Civil War is a similar lesson. Which is weakened since they do the actual quote in NWH. And we don’t know if Ben was involved in what he says in Civil War, I think it can still serve as the reason to be a hero.
That's true, and I agree. NWH just felt like they were ignoring that line in Civil War to me. I had made peace with that being an allusion to Uncle Ben. But NWH kind of erased that for me if that makes any sort of sense.
I hadn’t given it a thought about it until now. But I’m going to view it as that it was from Ben and it inspired him to be a hero. Then May’s is more focused about how he uses his power. Not sure if it holds up haha just had the thought. But that’s my current head canon at least.
'Spider-Man: No Way Home' writers dig into Uncle Ben question: 'May really is the moral guide' Watts didn't write the script, so...
Oh yeah, let me change that. McFeely and Markus did a better job writing Peter than McKeena and Sommers.
