I get why from Sony’s POV though. They don’t want a different Kraven than the one they plan to establish in their own film. Marvel tried to get Kraven for Spiderman NWH (before it was a multiverse film) and Sony was like nah.
Lmao I'm so over these shitty non-Spider-Man Sony movies that I assumed it already came out and bombed like all the others
The fact that they even have aspirations for those movies is ridiculous. People want Spider-Man villains in Spider-Man movies. It’s really not that hard. But this is the studio that was going to make an Aunt May movie.
He’s not the only reason I’m excited for Kraven, but like… he is the best reason. If nothing else, thank goodness there’s not someone as dour as Jared Leto at the center. These Marvel-characters-as-B-movies really need people I wanna watch at the center.
I’m watching Kraven so that I can understand how dire and depressing future Spider-Man rumors truly are.
I feel that once Miles is in the MCU, he will be the more “neighborhood” Spider-Man that many want to see. We’ll probably get some of the MCU’s own Otto, Goblin, etc. with Miles as well.
Sony just wanna milk what they can of the IP, running it once again into the ground despite Marvel’s continued efforts to keep Spiderman a strong hero/character/franchise… they just can’t get out of their own way. kick back, cash the checks and shut the fuck up!!! I would be stunned if Kraven wasn’t a massive flop. we’re at peak superhero saturation and I don’t think audiences are going to bite, ATJ is certainly a factor but… if this thing doesn’t stink to high heaven, I would call that ALONE a win. Joker 2 bombing hard also probably doesn’t do any favours for films of the “supervillains without their iconic heroic foe” variety.
Literally all of these studios just want to milk the IP that they have, lol. They're not charities making art for the culture; they're corporations trying to make the most of their assets. Sometimes you have "fans" (not a naturally positive distinction!) and/or artists who get in at whatever level, but the only way that works out is if it's good for the parent company.
I don't think the problem with any of the "supervillains without their iconic hero foe" movies have been the lack of said hero; they're just not very well made movies. There's absolutely no reason a Kraven or Black Cat/Silver Sable movie without Spider-Man couldn't be good
you’re not wrong - I find Sony in particular (of all the studios) seem to be more out of touch with understanding what it is that “works” about characters, and in turn what works on screen. their leaked emails from years back were a hilarious insight into a studio that just has no idea what to do with the toys they have
No, I mean, this is a film about the creation of the ViewMaster, isn't it? Or I don't understand what other kind of film they can possibly make.
