I think I’ll wait for word from someone that’s not taking Production Weekly as confirmation of something. Production Weekly who has had wildly bad info lately, especially with MCU stuff.
Even if a rumor ends up being true, I don't put much stock into any headline until it makes its way to THR, Deadline, or Variety. Too much clickbait/engagement bait these days.
Marvel should've made sure whatever Sony does in their films does not affect/interfere with the MCU stories in the contract. Instead of a Peter/Daredevil team up against Kingpin we get Peter fighting Knull. Very lame in comparison. Why have a symbiote story in the MCU already? Let Peter get the black suit in secret wars. Develop Eddie brock. Have a Venom that's actually connected to Spider-Man down the line. All of this being rushed has a high chance of blowing up in Sony's face.
Sony absolutely sucks, but I do think they captured the character in TASM 1 and 2 better than Marvel in the MCU movies. The scripts were a mess, though. Neither have been perfect tbh.
These studios are completely incapable of not shitting the bed after they have a huge hit. Just let Marvel cook and give us the street level shit and Daredevil, who was already slightly set up in the previous movie. Sony’s ideas obviously just keep paying off so well for them, so yeah why not force their ideas on the studio that made their hit movie.
Oh well Spider-verse is a whole different story. And I do like Venom, but not so much the 2nd one. Beside Secret Wars cameos, I don’t think Sony should have input on MCU Spider-Man. Focus on Spider-verse and mind your business.
Venom 1 was okay. Felt like a mid-2000s cbm in a good and bad way. Let there be carnage dropped the ball hard though. Didn't like the way they handled Carnage at all. I'm still looking forward to Venom 3 next weekend, but those characters do not need to brought into the MCU. I just want a Venom that has connections to Spider-Man. That shouldn't be difficult to do, but apparently Sony thinks otherwise.
Let There Be Carnage rules. I’m expected to believe tying these Venom movies into Tom Holland Spider-Man would be a downgrade from the Jon Watts trilogy? If anything, the Venom series is too good imo to end with lead-up to some MCU film. Also… it’s not like there’s any reason to believe a Marvel Studios Spidey film with Daredevil & Kingpin would be “grounded,” based on their track record. I’d like to see that crossover someday, too, but it’s probably gonna involve some kinda big CGI spectacle, lol. At least Knull and the symbiotes lend themselves to that formula. And, hey, maybe the third act will have some big symbiote invasion shit in the city that’ll involve other heroes, including Daredevil?
I’m down for Holland and Hardy teaming up to fight Knull We’re still in the multiverse saga, so it’s not entirely unexpected. I’ve always assumed the multiverse would be involved with SM4
