My dislike for Gray Man and most of their body of work makes me not much of a fan of their writing to be honest. Maybe Marvel should let Kathleen Kennedy take over. (Ok now that was actually trolling and don’t mean this seriously.) But I do think fatigue is real and all of these movies feel like they’re made on an assembly line treadmill without enough time to make the graphics or story good these days. And it’s been a bummer to watch. This just made me legit laugh out loud cause I thought it was fake at first, like a joke the Simpsons would make in 99.
So okay, someone said in the Avengers thread that it's being said this is not a Tony variant. Thinking further, maybe this does make sense solely because Doctor Doom's whole deal is that he never has his mask off because of the scarring, so maybe that's how they're making work with Downey? Maybe it's a voice acting type kind of deal?
It would be cool if it’s finally the narcissistic perfectionist Von Doom who wanted the mask because of the smallest scar and not some awful disfigurement.
A little weird but I’m optimistic. It’s not like Downey was some terrible actor. But also hoping that it’s not a variant situation, that would sour it quite a bit for me. I’m not against actors playing different roles in a shared universe. Also will die on the hill of T’Challa and Kang should have just been recast
For those asking about the Galactus clip, he was only shown very briefly at the end of the F4 sizzle. Shot was from inside the F4 sky scrapper and we see this massive object moving right outside of a panoramic window. Then we see Galactus’ face moving past as he stops and peeks through the window.
I picked a really good time to pass out on the couch tonight. Holy shit! I feel pretty conflicted about it though. It’s obviously exciting to have RDJ back, as long as he’s playing Victor and not a Tony variant, which seems to be the case. But it definitely just feels desperate and it’s a shame we won’t see another actor take a shot. We basically already knew the Russos were coming back and I’m still not mad at it. It’s also kinda desperate but I get it. Maybe they were too busy or weren’t even a choice, but I still wish Benson & Moorhead would’ve gotten the chance.
It’s hard to not get hyped after watching the videos of the RDJ reveal though. I’ve definitely watched it like 20 times already.
Tbh can’t think of a less inspired casting decision but also 100% believable the mcu would do this. So dumb.
Been sitting with this news and I'm still not sure what to make of it. I suppose if you wanted to fast track Doom's entry into the MCU, you'd have to start with something with built-in baggage and plot potential to make their interaction with all these characters plausible. Hence the Tony Doom making sense from that perspective. It's definitely cheating since they only have to build up his relationship with the Fantastic Four and let the variantness of it all do the work with everyone else. I'm still concerned it's wasting the character to some degree, but we'll see. I also can't imagine the multiverse plot being jettisoned completely since what else do you do at this point? Heh. Maybe he's a variant of Kang.
I also think that just because he's "Victor Von Doom" doesn't mean he's not still a variant of Tony Stark, just that he's not called Tony Stark in the same way Sylvie wasn't called Loki.
Aren't the Fantastic Four (which... what's up with that movie's dumb subtitle, lol) supposed to be from another earth? If so, surely Doom will be from the same earth and be established to have history with them. In which case, he would still be a threat from the multiverse.
yes. secret wars is coming after. they very clearly are not intending for us to think they are done with the multiverse lol
