Nah, even as a big comic reader, I get that this casting is weird. Multiverse in fiction is indeed an overused thing now.

 

They easily could have gotten another actor for Doom so I’m expecting some sort of narrative reason for RDJ.

Fair enough I agree it’s been bad minus NWH I just don’t think they’re going to move on from it so I’m liking what we got

 

And that narrative reason is probably money, but less cynical me thinks that these movie writers have been quite bad for a long time now and the “narrative” is going to be very contrived and make me roll my eyes when I finally one day get around to watching this one day.

The casting weirds me out because there's no way he continues after these films and that means we're either using Doom up on a variant or we're going to have another Doom down the road. Still, I'm onboard to find out what the fuck is going on.

Doom temporarily donning the Iron Man armor & mantle as part of a longer comic storyline (that also involved Tony)... is not at all the same thing as making Doom a multiversal Iron Man variant, lol. Assuming that's what this is.

Listen, I enjoy these films. They're a great escape from the fuckery of real life. I don't have to choose optimism, Josh.

 

That said, it does bum me out if Kang was just completely wasted on a half-baked storyline and a shitstain of an actor.

Yeah, there’s always the possibility that the narrative reason is a shoehorn. If Markus and McFeely are back as writers, I’ll feel less nervous. They seem to have had a clear vision with the entire Winter Soldier - Endgame narrative.

 

Won’t be the case but would love it if he was just Victor von Doom and not some multiverse variant nonsense. Like yeah fuck it we got RDJ to just play two entirely different major characters.
