IGN just completely forgetting that you kinda of have to show him pre-mask at some point to get across why he is like that. I get they think Doom is Marvel Darth Vader, but not showing him pre-mask is kind of a disservice to the character. Terrible take.
Eh, I don't think it's that bad. If you're going the classic route, you can just implicate he got the scar and put the mask on because of it without making a song and dance out of it.
I'll also say that choosing a particular actor makes one want to gravitate toward showing their face, and Doom's whole deal is he never shows his face.
But also remember a huge part of his character is he was friends with Reed. Are you saying they should just imply that and never show it as well?
It’s only rumors, but there is a strong chance they are not going with Reed and Doom being friends Edit: which I think is dumb and really hope is not true.
I mean, they weren't friends though. They were rivals (in Victor's mind) and the accident that scarred Victor is because he was too arrogant to listen to Reed's advice. Being honest, I don't believe this is something that we need to spend a huge amount of time on actually showing. Hell, for a long time the mystery in the comics was if Victor was really horribly scarred or if it was just his vanity that made him wear the mask. Showing the accident would take away that mystery.
I mean my point was that the rumors are pointing towards them having no prior relationship at all and possibly not even being from the same universe. So I hope it’s bullshit
Unfortunately, yes. I don’t think I read it recently though, so it could’ve been changed, if it wasn’t made up to begin with
Yeah you definitely need an actor that knows body language and acting with their eyes, not just a voice actor, for Doom
This would piss some people off real bad, but honestly I like this idea. I think she would be an incredible Squirrel Girl.
I’d rather her portray a character that actually has a decent chance of playing a major role in the MCU.
Squirrel Girl defeated Dr. Doom on her own. She saved the world from Galactus. She was a core member of one of the main Avengers lineups at one point. What makes you think that character can't play a major role in the MCU? Squirrel Girl has been significantly elevated in the last decade from just being a D-List joke character they were in the 90's and 2000's.
I’d put the probability of her making a big appearance in the same likelihood as any character from the Runaways, which is incredibly low, imo Mostly due to the character being written in New Warriors. Although it was intended to share continuity with the MCU, the fact that Marvel wasn’t saving the character for the films leads me to think she isn’t a front-runner for a major appearance. Marvel stopped Kevin Smith from using Werewolf by Night because “the movie division has plans for him.” Last-minutes changes could be made, such as Black Bolt, but he was a glorified cameo with no word on the character coming back for anything bigger anytime soon. She also hasn’t been mentioned by any scooper as a character that Marvel has interest in eventually spotlighting, such as Nova, Ghost Rider, etc.
Watts made some ok and critically acclaimed Spidey films, but it’s never a good idea to keep the same vision for more than a trilogy. It needs to be fresh and bold. Not comfortable and expected.
Hope they get someone new and they can make something heartfelt and sincere with none (or very little) of the tired MCU humor and quips. If they get someone like Alexander Payne to do something like The Holdovers but for Spider-Man (so a lot like Spider-Man 2) I’ll be so happy.
