Just call me Kevin Feige 2.0.

Hey, Sony, if you'd like your own Kevin Feige, hit me up!

A lot of what you're saying relates more so to what would happen to make a character pass the mantle, not whether a character should die. If we assume neither character dies (which wouldn't surprise me, lol), then yeah, a new Captain America makes more sense than a new Iron Man. But, if the core discussion is which character death would make the most sense within the larger narrative of the MCU, whether or not a character has shown signs of passing the mantle isn't really a major factor.

If anything, what you said is all the more reason a Tony death makes more sense. We've seen how stubborn Tony is, as well as how addicted he is to the whole Iron Man thing. If he hasn't given up yet, why would he after Avengers 4, unless he's dead? And if he's still going, wouldn't a nearly 60-yr-old be forced to star in Avengers 5?

Steve, on the other hand, has already given up on the whole Captain America thing. Even if he picks it back up (which will likely happen either in the third act of Infinity War or in Avengers 4, as part of some big hero moment), he's primed to continue playing a recurring role in the MCU without the shield. I could totally see a Commander Rogers showing up here and there like Nick Fury does while letting other characters lead the charge.

Thank you. I just get a lot of joy out of over-thinking fiction involving bright colors and big action, lol. I'm glad my current favorite pastime is enjoyable for others to watch!

My post was only about which character is more likely to pass their title down and I was siding with Steve.

When it comes to deaths, I think Tony would be better and it would benefit the progression of the MCU more than Steve's death would. If Tony dies then I see anything related to Iron Man sitting out of the MCU for a few years while I think the passing of Steve's shield will happen at the end of Avengers 4 or the first teamup film of phase 4.

I could be wrong and after Steve and Tony are out, Marvel could just focus on other characters and wait a few years to address any characters taking their titles. I know it's been said that the MCU will be more cosmic starting with phase 4, so I don't know how soon a new Cap or Iron Man will appear while the Earth-based heroes (Ant-Man, Wasp, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, & Captain Marvel) are being shared with the expansion of the Guardians and other cosmic characters.

I agree that Sebastian seems a little stale. If he does become CA then he will certainly need to fix that.

Honestly, after Infinity War and Avengers 4, especially with the GOTG brand likely expanding beyond Vol 3, I could see Avenger 5 (or New Avengers or whatever) being a lot more grounded. Especially with how many comic book films we're getting annually now, Marvel Studios will want to keep their brand varied to at least some extent. Civil War is a pretty good template for how to approach their next film.

I could certainly see Captain Marvel and/or Black Panther taking the lead for the Avengers, but I also really think Rhodey will be part of that. If nothing else, he'd be a great veterant/mentor part of the roster. He dated Carol in the comics, so there's a good opportunity for a bigger role there. And, while we jumped from the formation of the latest team in Age of Ultron straight to its implosion in Civil War, they did hint in Rhodey's limited CW appearances that he had a decent bit of authority there. If he does continue to play a role, him honoring his friend by using the title "Iron Man" (maybe with that classic red and silver armor from the comics) wouldn't be a stretch.

If you agree that he's stale, then WHY IS HE YOUR TOP PICK FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA INSTEAD OF THAT CHARMING ACTOR NAMED ANTHONY MACKIE, lol.

  9. As someone who's only familiar with the movies, I like Wilson/Mackie as Cap a lot more than Bucky/Stan. Wilson has a much more likable personality and seems much more suited for leadership. I love Bucky, but I feel like he wouldn't even want the role.

Agreed. If it did happen and he randomly became all happy and charismatic, it would seem really fake forced.

Leave moody and loner Bucky as he is, I like it better that way.

Because I like the character's relationship with Steve and think it fits well with him taking over the mantle. If this was a discussion on who is the better actor then it's Anthony. There are a lot of characters I like or think should have a good arc, even though they have a not so great actor. *cough*Quicksilver*cough* Though, I know that will never happen.

I've had the impression it will be Doctor Strange/Captain Marvel filling the leadership roles of Iron Man/Captain America. Black Panther could be picked to lead the Avengers if he is given the desire to instead of having his heart focused on Wakanda. There are so many characters that will be left over from the first three phrases (Falcon, Bucky, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Black Widow) that will be around when the new members (Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel) are around that I don't know who will be picked for the main team.

Scarlet Witch may be getting prepped for a 'House of M' done MCU style film, and Tony could possibly start the Illuminati with Black Panther, Strange, and three other members.

Honestly, besides the obvious that the new heroes will get more solo films, I have no idea how team-ups will be handled and who will get the spotlights.

I honestly don't currently expect Doctor Strange or Black Panther to become a full member of the Avengers. Strange is the kind of character that works best in his own world and in brief doses, and T'Challa being both king and Avenger would be a weird fit right now. And, I highly doubt Spider-Man will join the team before making his way into adulthood.

I'm currently envisioning the "New Avengers" or whatever having a roster that looks something like this: Rhodey, Captain Marvel, Thor, Falcon, Wasp, Vision, Scarlet Witch. There are other options for sure, but I imagine they'll wanna keep the roster relatively contained after Infinity War and Avengers 4 while also spotlighting a decent mix of characters. Depending on their Captain Marvel plans, maybe they'd take her out and use someone like Hawkeye instead? He'd give the team more of an 80s West Coast Avengers vibe, which could be fun.

As for the Illuminati, I've kinda wondered recently if, in the aftermath of Infinity War or Avengers 4, we could get something kinda resembling a mix between that and the Infinity Watch. Doctor Strange having the Time Stone already makes sense. Throw in Black Panther, Gamora, maybe Tony if they don't kill him (or he could help start it before he dies), maybe Vision, whoever else.

I'd like to see the Illuminati form, maybe Tony, Dr.Strange, Black Panther, Steve and someone from the Guardians. Depending on who is still around after Avengers 4.

I would be down for a Rhodey, Captain Marvel, Thor, Falcon, Wasp, Vision, and Scarlet Witch team. I would honestly rather Doctor Strange be focused on his own stuff (Clea introduction please?) and the Illuminati instead of a main Avenger, but with the casting of Cumberbatch, I think Strange is going to be focused on a lot in the future.

It's mind-blowing to have all of these characters in a film universe and in a position to ponder about this stuff.

There was a short-lived comic series recently with that premise called A-Force, which was pretty cool. Though, considering we still don't have official word on a Black Widow film, I wouldn't hold my breath. We'll probably get another Marvel white guy named Chris before that.

Didn't Valkyrie create and lead the Fearless Defenders? Marvel probably has other plans for Scarlet Witch so I don't see them putting part of her story into an all-female team. We have Black Widow, Gamora, Valkyrie, and soon Captain Marvel. Maybe Clea in Doctor Strange 2. Silk could be added even though the IMDB rumor is most likely false.

I thin Ava already passed on a Marvel film. I could be wrong and be thinking about someone else but i'm pretty sure I read about it last year.

Obviously Internet rumors must always be taken with a boulder of salt, but this really wouldn't be all that surprising. This same studio, with the same writer/producer (who is now also director), did replace Juggernaut with Quicksilver last minute in DOFP after it was revealed that Whedon was using him in AoU. Granted, I'm not sure how the development timeline for these two films went, so who inspired who would be harder to sort out.

If this ends up happening, it'll be an interesting development for a couple reasons. For one thing, both Captain Marvel and Dark Phoenix are supposed to take place in the 90s. Two unrelated films set two decades ago using the same fictional species 4 or 5 months from each other would be weird. Also, I'm pretty sure that'd be the first time Fox used part of their F4 rights and X-Men rights in the same film.

All that being said, I'm gonna lean towards not believing this rumor for now, lol.

This kind of points me to thinking it would be for a Tony Stark funeral. We just got word they were looking for funeral goers and flashing this kid, Pepper, Happy, Rhodes, among others, would go right with it.
