Taika is the one who sent in a demo reel featuring ‘Immigrant Song’ to Marvel. I guess he has to take the piss like it was never that serious and pretend to be ~Indie~ through and through to get his credibility back lmao
He’s made a couple of movies in my top movies of all time (WWDITS and Ragnarok) but sometimes his general attitude kind of sucks
It's not off brand for him to make a blunt and smug comment like that, and he's probably being honest in that he never read Thor or really aspired to direct a comic book movie. That said... It's pretty dumb and shitty of him to say that now. Thor put him on the map.
TBH, especially with Ragnarok, I thought they nailed it. The neon 80s feel to it, the music, etc...really loved it. Too bad the 4th movie was written so badly. I'm not against the darker theme and look though.
So wild to do a full 180 from what refreshed the franchise and made one of the best MCU films to date
Some people think ragnarok was good and some people think it was bad. Some people think it’s fine and that’s ok too
I think it was great for where it was positioned. We needed a funny, likable, and well-written Thor at that point in time.
It just scratched a particular itch for me. Also loved that we got a lot of time with Thor/Loki together. Totally understand if it wasn’t to someone’s liking.
Also, I don't buy the whole "darker tone" crap. Their idea of darker is one of the characters getting caught with weed on them at this point.
Depends what "dark" means to you, but I think they've been making fair attempts to handle more complicated topics and violent scenarios through their general lens. I mean, this is still the same company that made the Netflix shows, and I fully believe they're capable of wading back into those waters.
To be fair, the Netflix shows were made by Marvel Television, which was a completely separate studio than the movies. Remember when Miss Minutes gleefully watched a box full of people get compacted
