Didn’t Echo get pushed back to 2024? Or are they sticking with releasing all episodes over Thanksgiving?
Cinematic Thanos is overrated, and the bits of cinematic Kang I’ve seen have been weak in a similar but more pronounced way. Please let Doom and a hypothetical recast Kang be drama queens.
Those are fighting words. I’ll take cinematic Thanos over comic Thanos, who just wanted to fancy lady death, any day of the week.
Comic Thanos is an operatic figure who battles cosmic personified concepts and performs grand gestures of death to impress Death herself, with a literal devil as his wingman. He’s defeated by his own hubris and also his daughter. He’s named by Starlin after “Thanatos” and has a brother named “Eros.” He rules. Hopefully Doom keeps some version of his comics drama, like having been in college with Reed & Ben, and all his family & romantic mess. That dramatic tension, plus his grand speeches, is what makes him great, not just his power levels or whatever boring ass nerd shit, lol.
Yeah, and it rules (in spite of Eternals as a whole not working, and Styles not exactly being a personal fav). Someday, Marvel should use a version of the mechanism in Kieron Gillen’s Eternals to bring Thanos back and do a cosmic story with him, Starfox, etc. The recently launched GODS book by Hickman is also doing some stuff that could be used. And, if they don’t drop the ball, lots of potential with Galactus and Silver Surfer. We’ve even got Eternity in the mix now (albeit in another film that didn’t exactly work). Also wanna see some interesting work eventually with the Phoenix, but the comics themselves drop the ball on that a lot outside of Claremont, Morrison, & Ewing. (Damn you, Jason Aaron!) Between that, the past couple cinematic Phoenixes, and how Marvel Studios handled Thanos, I’m not holding my breath.
I would like at least a disney+ 45 minute special that showed Eros and Thanos going on a cosmic brother journey together.
yeah, my writer friend said rumor is that the show was bad enough that no amount of reshoots/edits could fix it, and that they considered not releasing this at all. I dunno, it looks decent to me, but trailers can be very deceiving. If anything, it's TV-MA and appears to have some of that Netflix Marvel fighting/violence, so I'll give it a whirl.
Honestly still confused as to why they thought an Echo show was the move at this point. MA rating has me interested at least.
I can think of a few reasons, but I think the big one is that Marvel’s been slowly trying to diversify a lot, and not to be crass about it, but this kills two birds with one stone. It also provides a segue from Hawkeye to Daredevil by utilizing the character that links from one show to the other.
The fact that they're releasing all the episodes at once in 2023 is a bad sign. Which sucks, because this could be good.
