The only movies in this universe that bother me are the ones that don't advance the overall plot. Iron Man 2, 3, Ultron, etc
Woah there, let's not get crazy. lol. This is where I'm at. It's not all that good. It's also not terrible. It's just... fine. After seeing Wonder Woman, I definitely mourn Jenkins not getting to make her vision of Thor 2. There was definitely Snyder influence in WW, but it wasn't that far removed from what could exist in the MCU. I'd rather have a good WW film than a good Thor film, but the untapped potential sitting in those two Thor films is definitely frustrating. At least Taika Waititi seems to be finally making something cool with that cast and world.
Marvel Studios Executive Producer Touts Company's "Quality First, Then Diversity" Approach I agree. Quality needs to come first. No one wants a rushed diverse movie that ends up bring shit because they didn't take their time.
Yeah, because inclusive casts are such a hindrance to quality. This line of reasoning is trash, and anyone who buys into it is trash. There is no freaking excuse.
That's not what they're saying at all. I'm just going to post the quote within the article. "We want to tell the best stories with the strongest developed characters and scripts that we can. Our biggest concern is that, in trying to get more characters out there, we rush something that's not ready and we deliver something that's not up to our standards. So it's less about us rushing a characters that's diverse to get it quickly and more about figuring out how to do it right." Unless you would want Marvel to hurry and release a film that is diverse just for the sake of it being out asap, potentially not being as good as it could have been if they would have taken their time in production. If it means the diverse films will be great when they release then I don't mind waiting.
It's not like, with their current slate, this hypothetical "rushed diverse" film would be dropping in 2018 or whatever. It's really not that hard at this stage in the game to plan for a more diverse slate beyond Phase 3's conclusion. The next available slot for a Marvel film is literally 3 years from now, which is how much time there is between Ant-Man and its sequel. Heck, it's as much time as there is between ASM2 and Homecoming, and a complex negotiation between two different studios had to take place in that time. (The Spider-Man example is also clear proof that Marvel's plans can easily shift, so no morons better argue that the post-Avengers 4 slots are somehow set in stone.) I love Marvel, but like, come on, there's literally no freaking reason for this garbage "we don't wanna rush anything" excuse when a strong, more diverse Phase 4 slot building off what's come before would be so incredibly easy, my goodness.
I still believe they are going to have more diverse characters for phase 4. I believe this statement was made specificslly for those asking why Marvel has failed to release a black-lead or female-lead movie yet, with the first other those not being released until 2018/2019, when DC had a female-lead this year.
If that's the case, then the only respectable response to a decade of films, averaging nearly 2 per year, all led by white dudes, is, "We screwed up." Anything else is wrong.
Especially considering they've had a great female character who most people really enjoy in the films with multiple great comic storylines to take from played by a major movie star in Black Widow for most of that time.
Yeah, it really is poor. I'm most excited for Black Panther and Captain Marvel now that GOTG2 is passed. (Although Thor 3 is shaping up to be a good film).
