“I really want Marvel to keep making good movies,” Gunn said about his exit. “I think it’s really hard in the wake of the Blip. There’s this worldwide, universe-wide event that happened. And in truth, everybody would be stark raving mad at this point. So it’s hard to write stories in the wake of that. Which is why the ‘Guardians’ movies have been easier, because they’re set outside of that a little bit.” https://variety.com/2023/film/news/...ans-of-the-galaxy-different-tones-1235572227/ It would have been much better for Endgame to be filmed and released for 2023. During an actual 5-year period, we could have got Shang-Chi, Kate Bishop, and others who had their origin stories during the blip and then joined the Avengers in the final battle. Would have actually added weight to the 5 years instead of it now being something they mention once and then ignore.
We've had this conversation a lot and I don't really care to have it again, but my firm stance is that they haven't exactly ignored it, and you can't tell me that in the wake of Covid that the world wouldn't treat the Blip in exactly the same way.
I agree with Gunn. If something like the blip happened where an extraterrestrial used stones to erase almost 4 billion people from existence for 5 years then I don’t think people would be able to adjust back to a semi normal life as quick as they seem to have in the MCU, but they have to keep pushing the story forward. Like you have bad guys now still wanting to rule over people and steal for wealth, but you think something that catastrophic and supernatural would make them realize such petty ways are out weighed knowing there are forces out there that can just erase you from existence. It would be like the biblical rapture occurring and people just carrying on about their day. Like no lol they would not be. The world will be in chaos.
I mean, if an alien can snap you away, why take life seriously? Why care about other people? Why not just do what brings me pleasure? I think villains see all that and just choose to control what they can. Life goes fast and you gotta get the most out of it. like, I don’t think I’d have that mindset, but I think there is logic to those who used the blip to gain power.
Yeah I’m sure there will always be some people that will choose evil and personal gain over others even after an event like the blip. In my mind it would just make sense if it made most people wake up and come together and put aside their differences realizing that in the grand scheme of things acting with such malevolence or working for personal greed and desires doesn’t matter. They should be working together to prevent something like the blip from ever happening again.
Something like 7 million people died from a global pandemic and you wouldn't even know it if you visited earth today lol. We'd defffff move on from the Blip.
7 million deaths due to Covid is a huge number, especially since it was a real world event, but the blip made almost 4 billion people just vanish. If the blip were an actual historical event the numbers would not even be close to being comparable. The world wouldn’t bounce back how it’s been able to from covid just based on the sheer number. Covid is also a virus, whereas the blip is a supernatural event. That already makes them almost impossible to compare.
The more I think about it, maybe Justin is right, and it would've been better if Marvel had done some movies taking place during the Blip before committing to Endgame, although that might've been a really ambitious task to ask audiences to wait years for a payoff. Also, that would mean a lot more characters needing to be written into the plot, and it's amazing the Russos managed to handle what they already had. The problem is that we haven't really had a reason to dive back into that timeframe, so we only see events that either matter to protagonists directly, like in WandaVision and in Hawkeye, or matter to the plot, like in Falcon And The Winter Soldier or Eternals. We don't really see what's happening in the world in general because it ultimately doesn't drive the individual arcs we're exploring. And I can't say I blame writers either. Who really wants to be beholden to an event from one movie for an x+ amount of time when writing their script? And at what point does it feel right to start phasing it out and moving on? And I fully believe that even with a sheer number like 4 billion people, there will still be people who would not be affected one bit. But in any case, we're seeing all this five years later, after which the world has not only had time to move on, but now all those people are back, and the problem is more of reintegrating them. Anyway, that's all my thoughts on this subject. I'm still going to enjoy what happens next.
Half the earth’s population at the time of the “blip” would’ve been equal to the population of the earth roughly fifty years prior, lol. We’re honestly better off not dedicating any brain power on its implications.
Listen all I know is if 4 billion people got blipped I'm finding an empty mansion with a pool and setting up shop
Yeah, let's just be real, most of society wouldn't even be functional for years. I would find generators and get my own place of grid and hope eventually some day I could play a new video game.
“That’s many years away, though,” he says. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.” James Gunn Talks A Potential Marvel / DC Crossover: ‘I’d Be Lying To Say We Haven’t Discussed It’ – Exclusive
Yeah, I’ve been going to SDCC and Hall H for 10 years now. This would probably be what makes me switch to other conventions.
