"Critics largely enjoyed the Fantastic Four film, though criticised the decision to have a 40-minute scene where Reed Richards makes the team listen to the new blink-182 album filmed in a single continuous take."

Crazy to think about how Phase 5 hasn't even started yet and by next year it will be done with 6 films and 7 seasons of television, and already onto Phase 6 by the end of 2024. Output into high gear.

Same thing happened with phase 4. All of the films and shows were 2021-2022.

I guess it just didn't really feel the same way because it was the first phase where there was no real overarching narrative. Their was barely any cohesion so the output didn't feel as impactful.

Here we are presumably going to get multi project story told in nearly 100 hours in just under 2 years.

Well, Phase 4, 5, and 6 are all part of the same story, so that's not exactly true.

I mean, it is a fast pace, don't get me wrong. The first three Phases of the MCU took 11 years and this will only take 6, although I guess you also need account for the fact that early on, Marvel had no idea this was going to work, and so we only had one-two movies a year for a while.

I dunno, I guess it depends on how you look at it.

I think it was better when we only had 2-3 movies a year and that's it

Give me the Thanos that grew up callous and felt the need to depopulate the universe any day of the week

MCU Thanos is so boring and dumb. It says so much about their approach to storytelling that they kept his “eliminate half of all life” symbolic gesture, but as a nonsensical “my work here is done” act of supposedly pragmatic genocide. And, it says a lot about the fandom that this and being Gamora’s abusive father made him somehow “understandable” or whatever.

I don't think his motivations in the films make him understandable and I don't think they're really meant to, but I think they make more sense as a general talking point for regular audiences than "I'm doing this because Death is a person and I want her to be my wife".

They didn’t necessarily have to strictly adapt the original motivations (though I’d argue “murder to impress a cosmic being” is a lot less abstract and alienating than people make it out to be). But, making him cold instead of passionate is boring, imo. And, making that mission pragmatic instead of symbolic is really dumb. So many other, more compelling angles they could’ve taken.

I think the Thanos/Death angle could have worked if they had more time to explore and flesh it out. I think if they did the Infinity Saga now with Disney+ and streaming they could pull it off.

I would have liked it more if Thanos was pissed at the gods of the universe for not saving his people so his ultimate goal would be to show that he will do on a universal scale what he believes the gods were too careless to do, driven out of pure hatred and revenge. Sort of a “you guys ignored this so now I’m going to amass this power and decide for you.”

That’s if Marvel wanted to still keep Death out of it. But, I also believe Thanos’ motivations were most likely a result of the Russo brothers. They wanted what the audience would see as a moral dilemma for their villain. More misguided than downright sinister.

Another thing I was thinking about: So Post-Kang who do you think has potential to be the next overarching big bad in the next saga?

I have two pitches for that spot: 1) Maker (preferably played by Miles Teller) and 2) Knull. I think Doom is the conventional choice but I think he will eventually end up a shades of grey deuteragonist like Loki.

    Probably Dr Doom or Galactus

The next saga will more than likely be mutant-focused, so I'd like either Apocalypse or, and I'm dead serious about this, Onslaught.

Galactus is going to be the villain in F4 with many scoopers hinting that a casting is underway.

Phases 7 - 9 being Mutant focused is best. I wouldn’t mind if Galactus or Doom is the villain of phase 7, let phase 8 lead to Avengers vs X-Men (orchestrated by Doom in the MCU), phase 9 can be Apocalypse.

I hope Dr. Doom gets his flowers, but I also hope we get a Midnight Sons type of event movie where the underground characters get to have a big Avengers level movie

With ending of GotG, the introduction of Warlock and the eventual introduction of Richard Rider the future of post-James Gunn Cosmic MCU has gotta be Annihilation. I wouldn't be surprised if they do Annihilation Conquest (Ultron is revealed to have survived and recovered in space, and conquers the Kree Empire) first and they use Secret Invasion and Marvels as a way to slowly set that up.

The only problem with that is it’s rumored Ultron is returning and is the villain in the Armor Wars (west coast avengers) film

From that neck of the woods, almost nobody seems big enough for an event movie except for Mephisto. Dormammu has already been used, and I just can't see Blackheart or Dracula being an event-level threat. I can't really think of anyone else off the top of my head.

Disney+ also mixes it up a bit as well. Some teams, like Midnight Suns, could have had big films if not for Disney+. With Disney+ some of those crossovers may be kept for a few big streaming releases.
