The word now is… Bryce Dallas Howard is currently in negotiations to direct Fantastic Four. The deal will also have her co-star in the film. No mention of who but probably Invisible Girl. Krasinski will return as both Mr Fantastic and executive producer. Howard and Krasinki will have a writer’s room to flesh out the story by the end of the year for a 2023 production date. Source says an announcement will be within a few days if Howard signs. Edit: finalized in a few days, not announced.
i think only tv, she did mando/boba fett episodes iirc i get those are about as big as tv gets/her dad is a legend, but going from never doing film to doing what i’m sure will end up being one of the biggest films (budget/box office-wise) is quite the puzzling move. i wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a much better director than krasinski (not that it’s a high bar), but the quiet place movies at least translate to this a bit more directly
She's directing a movie called Flight of the Navigator too. And as Pat alluded to, those Mando episodes are budget/production wise mini-feature films
With the way Marvel Studios works, she’d essentially be going from a big budget Disney show to a longer, bigger budget Disney show. The previously signed director was Jon Watts, so it’s not like they’re shooting for someone with an established distinct voice.
I understand questioning if she is ready for such a project. But I’m totally down for Howard doing it and being in it.
I think it's cool they're giving Howard a shot if that turns out to be the case. It's not like they're moving from an established auteur to someone with less experience. Watts to Howard will be a lateral move at worst and an improvement at best if she turns out something special. Let her do it.
watts is a bad director. like, actively. just think going from no features at all to this is a huge jump
Also as has already been said, she did do a very good job (imo) working with a big budget/big IP on the Star Wars shows, especially as someone with little directing experience.
I don’t know how likely I am to see the film either way. Only chimed in at all ‘cause I was pooping at work, lol. Guess it just feels like less of a leap to me because she’s worked in the Star Wars Disney+ world that’s comparable to how Marvel works (and has used other Marvel directors). And, Marvel Studios has such a set pipeline that one potential Black Widow director (forget who) complained about being told not to worry about the action. Factor in all her acting experience and who her father is, plus the way these movies hand post production & reshoots… I’m sure she’d do fine compared to other Marvel directors. (If anything, I’d like it if cinematic Marvel became like the comics, where people can go and practice their craft in a fairly safe context before going on to do their own thing.)
I’m more interested in Howard as Sue than director. Like others have said, her SW stuff is good, but I never imagined her as Sue until the rumor came out. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Let her keep the red hair, though.
Nope. I just want one really solid Fantastic Four live-action adventure with a comic-accurate team. I will die on this goddamn hill until that happens. Then people can make whatever changes they want, but until then, blonde or bust. I'm mostly joking, but I'm secretly not.
So the latest wild rumor is that Moon Knight might appear next in Captain America 4. That... seems like a really odd place for him to be.
