I think the funniest thing about this Mobius mess is that it’s clear they had different plans before Marvel and Sony realized they’d make more money working together but they already had this movie in the can before that so it reflects the original plan and sticks out. Like that’s the only reason I can think of why those scenes are in there still.
Yeah, I had no confidence in Sony to do anything of quality with the Spider-Man characters, but this is worse than I would've thought. Everything they've done with this universe has gotten consistently worse since TASM imo. It's like they aren't even trying to make things make sense at this point.
I mean, the Venom movies are more fun than a lot of Marvel Studios’ output, and Spider-Verse is in the top tier of superhero movies ever made.
Sony definitely gets credit for hiring the right people re: Spider-Verse because that's a phenomenal movie. But yeah outside of that obviously the best decision they've made with the license since the Raimi days was allowing Spider-Man into the MCU.
To the earlier mention of Sinister Six: If Sony can get Drew Goddard back on board, I’d be all in on that. Stories from the perspective of Spidey’s villains tend to be a lot of fun, and Goddard has the right sensibilities for that. Hopefully that hypothetical film opens with this:
Sinister Six is what I've always hoped for from the start, Erik Larsen's 6 parter was always one of my favorite Spidey stories. I loved that they were teasing it at the end of ASM2. Just don't know if they'll do it right lol
Yeah, that Larsen stuff is a lot of fun! The thing about Sony that fans complain about is also its greatest asset: It doesn’t have a set direction or identity. (The same was true with later Fox Marvel.) Which means, the floor for the biggest vampiric flops is very low, lol, but there’s also a lot of potential for the right filmmaker to make something really neat. I believe a few years ago Goddard hinted at still being interested in the Sinister Six, and Pascal hinted at still wanting to work with Goddard. If the JC Chandor Kraven the Hunter film works well enough, don’t think that’s out of the question. And I’m willing to trust Goddard with those characters.
They basically want their cake and eat it too. They know they don’t have to give up the SM rights so why not milk that cow against its wishes?
damn, Jessica Jones s3 rules. it's a shame it got overshadowed by the cancellation thing cos I barely see any discussion of it at all. enjoyed it front to back
I liked it as well. It's wild that Trish's journey took her from being best friend supporting cast to a prisoner of the Raft.
More like bizarre. Remember when Wandavision had the ending scene updated? Like, weird that these edits would be made without any explanation.
I know it was never explained, but someone guessed it had to do with matching the look to more of what it likely is in Strange 2. Which I guess we’ll see soon enough if that’s the case. updating the design is one thing to me, censoring blood and violence that already has been released for months is just lame.
I wonder if we’ll get a “Han shot first” situation with Disney being allowed to alter scenes as they please.
Strange to do this when they’re releasing Moon Knight and the Netflix shows on there. Doesn’t make sense.
Apparently the scene where Walker decapacitates someone with the shield was left untouched? And yeah, with Moon Knight dropping in a few hours, it's definitely an interesting move to retroactively censor blood in another Marvel show
The same way South Park adding one additional curse word for every NC-17 rating the movie got moved it down to an R? "See! Look, we care about the kids and are prepared to take on the responsibility of parenting them since you refuse to monitor your children's content. We've removed some blood. You're welcome!"
