I don’t think it has anything to do with budget because the Disney+ marvel shows have film budgets. If I were to guess it’s because her powers are close to Mr Fantastics (who will be arriving in the MCU soon)

 

I hate to waste too much time opining on Ms Marvel when, one, the show isn’t out yet, and two, there’s little chance I spend time on a Disney+ show when I can just reread the comics instead. But, it is a pretty stupid change (if 100% real).

As I said in the comics thread, though, I’ll only care insofar as it motivates the publishing side to fuck with the comics character for ~*synergy*~ reasons.

 

Those are all fair points, but I'll say for starters that I think the movies have tried to do a fair job differentiating each hero, unlike the comics.

Multiple sorcerers with the same color magic makes internal sense, and even Iron Man and War Machine were at least made to be aesthetically different to highlight Rhodey's military background. Other than that, there's not a lot of overlap in the MCU yet.

With this in mind, it actually makes even more sense then to have Kamala's powers hew closer to Captain Marvel's power set: the hero she's emulating. It makes sense from a visual and a storytelling standpoint.

I get that the stretching is a visual metaphor for personal acceptance, but not having that doesn't mean that can't still be a major part of her character arc, and it doesn't mean her powers can't still be tied to that.

I dunno, I think it's way too early to judge the situation, since we don't have any footage yet to go off from.

 

I'll wait and see how the show handles it. Hopefully the writers bring her new abilities out from her character.

This probably won't be the last time something like this is changed. There are a lot of characters who have similar abilities and a lot MCU fans are not comic fans. Comic fans don't generally care about similarities while those who just keep up with the MCU will be harder to please.
