Apparently Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) was in the running but didn't make the top 3. I'm going to go cry in a corner now.
As much as I love Brie Larson I am a little bummed that Emily Blunt didn't get the Captain Marvel role. I think she would have been great!
Marvel is developing a half hour New Warriors show starring Squirrel Girl. Squirrel Girl on TV? Marvel Developing New Warriors Comedy Series
Huh. Of all the Marvel properties in development, I think this might be the least interesting. Never even remotely cared for the New Warriors. People will go nuts (tee-hee) for Squirrel Girl though I'm sure. Way more excited for all the other shows in the pipeline, and especially Runaways.
Well that title was misleading. and Thanos is even sitting during rehearsal. Haha can't wait to see him in action.
I'm hyped for Infinity War but idk how the Russos will be able to choreograph the fight. In Civil War it was easy to make every character be able to shine in the fight. You had a team of 6 vs a team of 5. In IW you'll have a team of 30+ vs a team of 1
Well of course, but in the final fight with Thanos I'm sure they will focus on him fighting the Avengers and with the guantlet every Avenger will pretty much have to partake if they want a chance of succeeding unless they under power Thanos. He could literally punch most of them once and kill them instantly. Idk how they will translate that to the screen.
Is she stronger than all of the other superheros in the comics? It's hard for me to imagine that she could go up against someone who could send her to another dimension but then again Feige may just be talking about physical strength.
In the comics she is definitely one of the strongest heroes. She even has an upgraded rage form that's like cosmic level powerful. But she also appears a bit more tough and built than Brie Larson.
Depending on what we're discussing, I feel like Scarlet Witch is the most powerful MCU character, followed by Doctor Strange. Unless we mean more brute force, which I think should in theory be Hulk, right? I love Carol, though, so I'm all about them leaning into her power level, lol.
Kevin Feige Is Ready to Move Beyond the ‘Completely White’ Casts of Comic-Book Movies I know this doesn't make up for Doctor Strange but at least he's trying
I mean, it only took a decade of white dudes named Chris surrounded by more white dudes, some white ladies, and some black dudes... As the supporting casts become more representative of the world around us, hopefully the leads start branching out, too. Like, I'd be ecstatic if Phase 4 had Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Black Widow, AND Sam Wilson Captain America, but I'd also like to see maybe Shang-Chi get a film. Or the Sam Alexander Nova. Or whoever else. Some more diversity behind camera would also be great, though getting Taika Wakiti is definitely a win. To whoever is waiting to jump in and say, "It's never enough for you!" ...no, it's not, until inclusion is 100% the status quo. I'm an avid, shameless Marvel fanboy, but I also will continue to answer all progress with, "Great! Now, let's work on THIS problem!"
I think Sam is far more deserving of the Captain America title than Bucky, at least in the MCU. Everyone keeps talking about Bucky becoming Cap after IW, but I think that would be totally anticlimactic. We truthfully don't know much about Bucky, they haven't really flushed out his character like they have with Sam. I am really hoping Sam takes the shield over Bucky. Other than that, maybe they can convince Justin Lin or Kim Jee-Woon to direct an Adam Warlock movie!
I'm just curious as to what characters this could pertain to. It's difficult to use C-list characters and get people excited about it. Putting a POC in a traditionally white character is going to have people freaking the fuck out. I'm all for the inclusion, but from Disney's perspective, its a super risky move either way. People (corporations and the general public) are awful.
I know next to nothing about Doctor Strange, but am hyped to see it tonight! Big, big fan of the MCU.
I think the "risky" angle is overrated. The Sony email leaks proved that it is what their excuse is, but that doesn't hold up to the facts. We can see in the Fast and Furious films and the Luke Cage series that, if you make a "good" (or whatever you call Fast) property with an inclusive cast, you'll bring in those represented audiences without sacrificing white dudes. And as far as preestamblished brands... All of Marvel is one at this point. None of the suggestions I'm gonna make are crazier than GOTG or Ant-Man were when they were announced. As for backlash... I think it's easy to see comic book Twitter trolls and the Ghostbusters backlash and overestimate the effect haters would have on mantle-passing in a Marvel film. Sam Wilson Cap supported by Steve Rogers, Amadeus Cho Hulk supported by Bruce Banner, and that new (indefinitely delayed) Blade character supported by her daddy (played by Wesley Snipes) are all more comparable to Creed with Rocky, which was a success, than any new film that has been ripped to shreds. Ghostbusters was a perfect storm of alt right douches, people who oppose reboots, and people who didn't like its sense of humor. And even then, the film was generally successful critically and would have been an obvious financial success had the budget been controlled a little better and the film released in China. (Between this and ASM2, Sony is good at making potential modest successes into financial misses, lol.) Some suggestions I have for film franchises: CHAMPIONS starring Amadeus Cho Hulk, telling his origin. (Calling it "Champions" instead of "Hulk" could get around the messy solo film rights, maybe?) Include Mark Ruffalo as Banner, along with Thunderbolt Ross, Helen Cho, Nick Fury, maybe Betty Ross, maybe Black Widow. Maybe introduce Hercules and make the antagonist someone mythological. Maybe do Red Hulk? MASTERS OF KUNG FU starring Shang Chi. Include White Tiger and other Kung Fu Marvel characters not claimed by Netflix. Maybe use Iron Fist if they can play nice with the television department. Maybe include Doctor Strange or Black Widow. Post credits scene where Steve Rogers invites him to join the Avengers. MS MARVEL starring Kamala Khan. Use Captain Marvel, obviously. Maybe have Tom Holland's Spidey appear. Maybe use Daisy Johnson if they can work with television department. NOVA starring Sam Wilson. Use Richard Rider the way Ant-Man used Hank Pym. Bring in supporting characters from GOTG. Use the Chitauri. Maybe have Tom Holland Spidey appear. ULTIMATES starring Monica Rambeau as Spectrum, mixing her origin with the founding of an Ultimates/Alpha Flight-type situation. Include Captain Marvel, Black Panther, maybe Tony Stark. Maybe introduce Miss America Chavez, unless she's saved for some hypothetical Young Avengers type film. BLADE starring the new Blade character that the comics created but haven't used yet. Bring back Wesley Snipes. Maybe use Doctor Strange. Maybe use Ghost Rider if they can work with television department. RUNAWAYS starring Nico Minoru and GHOST RIDER starring Robbie Reyes would have worked great if Marvel hadn't decided they weren't cut out for the film treatment. (I get the creative reasons, but relegating all their best inclusive stories to television really, really sucks. Let some of them headline blockbusters.) I don't need all of these at once, but AT LEAST 2-3 of these ideas spread over 2020-2025 would be doable and awesome. Unlikely? Sure. But doable, and successful, and loved by longtime Marvel fans and general audiences alike, and a perfect way to fix their representation problems? Absolutely.
