I had another Spider-Man comic where a TV in the background was talking about an upcoming Spider-Man movie starring "Seabiscuit star Tobey Maguire". I wish I could remember what exactly it was or that I still had it.

I wonder if that was also in the Ultimate Spider-Man universe? I remember a ton of jokes about those movies in that run lol

that lines up, Ultimate Spider-Man launched when I was like 9 and I know I had a bunch so the timeline fits. Were those books good? I remember liking them but thinking back they feel very early 2000s, which honestly could be fantastic

The only comic I still have from pre-2010 is a One More Day book I think. Spider-Man is in his black suit and he and Mary Jane are wedding cake top figures. I specifically remember thinking the cover ruled and buying it because I loved superhero love stories

I still love them for the most part and look back on them fondly, but on my most recent read, Peter did come across as kind of whiney at times and Bendis had some sketchy side plots that make me pretty uncomfortable, like the Logan body swap issue with the implication that Logan was checking out underage cheerleaders and hooking up with underaged MJ in Peter's body. They are definitely veryy early 2000s lol but I think a lot of it is a really cool and fresh take on things and awesome for someone who doesn't want to read through literal decades of material. Their spin on the Venom symbiote was pretty unique.

I mean, it’s over 100 issues of Mark Bagley drawing Spidey, so that alone is a win. And, yes, they’re very, very early 2000s.

My personal favorite stretch of Bendis Spider-Man, though, is the first Miles Morales run. Love that Sara Pichelli & David Marquez art, & those colors from the late Justin Ponsor (who I believe also colored the back end of Bagley’s Ultimate Peter Parker stuff).

    You talking about this?

One Moment in Time has that specter of One More Day hanging over it (since it’s answering what the post-OMD in-universe continuity is, plus Quesada story & framing sequence), but it’s actually a really solid comic in spite of that, imo. Mostly because it’s drawn by Paolo Rivera, who draws (& paints) some of the best modern Spidey.

On a similar note, have you read Sensational Spider-Man Annual (2007) #1? Such a great story by Matt Fraction & Salvador Larroca, from those Back in Black days between Civil War & OMD, when his identity was out. About Peter & MJ’s love, w/ flashbacks to different points in their relationship. The opening has a scene that I would love to see adapted into a film:

Yes, one moment in time, not one more day. The Miles stuff is great and partially what got me back into buying comics in the early 2010s, that and that issue of Justice League where Superman and Wonder Woman kiss (again I saw the cover and was like, ooh, superhero romance).

I haven’t read that Fraction annual but I love him, it sounds right up my alley.

The Ultimate Spider-Man series were the first comics I ever read as a kid, I had the first like 20 volumes. Really loved them at the time, I might go back and see if they hold up now, I still know exactly where I have all of them lol

I think Marvel should cast JGL as Mr. Fantastic.

This is a great one that I don't think I've heard before. Unfortunately, I have a feeling Krasinski has probably been spoken into existence. Same with Blunt.

krasinski is better as a fit and as an actor than JGL

I feel like they should go with someone a little younger than Krasinski, like someone in the 33-35 range. I also think that, since they cast Jonathan Majors as Kang anyway, it would be cool to cast a black actor as Reed Richards. Of course, Kang is from so far in the future anyway that the actor doesn't have to be black, I just think there's literally no reason why Reed has to be white either.

William Jackson Harper for Reed Richards

If they do change the race of any of the characters I would be down for Boyega as Human Torch. I think he may be too short and bulky for Reeds, though.

I’ll never understand the John Krasinski Reed Richards fan casting. Krasinski would be such a mediocre fit for Reed as I know him.
