I live for this kind of shit (I go to SDCC and sit in Hall H every year), but even I have to admit that the sheer amount of things announced (including all of the other Disney properties) has me exhausted.
Jesus christ it's gonna take me like 2 hours to digest all this news lmao Also, what the fuck, why are studios so against making a GOOD F4 movie. I know it's kinda harsh this early on, but I have very little hope in Watts pulling that off well at all
I got so excited when they announce Fantastic 4 and then audibly sighed when they said John Watts. My fiancé could stop laughing at my reaction. At least we’ll get those characters in the MCU to be used better in other places like Spider-Man has been.
Watts is a fine enough John Hughes wannabe. Not even close to who I'd pick to direct a Fantastic Four movie
The Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special is the best news out of the day for me, tbh. That & WandaVision are probably gonna be the only Marvel things made for Disney+ I watch, but I’m gonna love ‘em both. Ms Marvel is super cool, I adore the character, but knowing that she’s confirmed for Captain Marvel 2 means I, personally, am unlikely to watch the show. Would rather just reread the comics instead of watching a show. Super excited for everyone who’s gonna discover her & her world through the show, though, which I’m sure will be great. Really glad Christian Bale as Gorr is confirmed. That movie’s gonna rule. The comment about Spidey when discussing Strange, though unsurprising, is... something. (But, yeah, anything with alternate realities is Sony’s idea, not part of Marvel Studios’ plans, lol.) Jon Watts on Fantastic Four is just... so... like, why? lol. Some of his comedic sensibilities are good, so with the right writers & cast, I could still dig the film. But, outside of one cool Mysterio sequence, his movies have been some of the most vanilla looking, so him helming Marvel’s First Family is really disappointing. The best thing about using “Secret Invasion” as the name of a Disney+ show is that it decreases the odds of that specific story becoming an Avengers movie, which would suck (though I’m sure there are big Skrull plans).
The thing I always laugh at is seeing "No! Marvel hires middling directors to direct the superhero movies!" and then immediately seeing "No! I don't want [X amazing director] to waste their time making a Marvel movie!" Like, what do you actually want. Also, love the "Superhero movies are for children and shouldn't be taken seriously" juxtaposed against "Why won't they hire better people to direct these superhero movies."
