I’m not saying Storm wasn’t sidelined, but of the two leaders, Storm definitely got more to do than Cyclops
Storm & Cyclops were both handled equally in the first two films, Storm was mishandled WAY more than Cyclops in the two most recent films (poor Alexandra Shipp deserved better). I like Cyclops, too, but come on. Don't let being a Scott Summers stan through Last Stand (which was 13 years ago) & that rough Inhumans vs X-Men era of comics blind you to Storm's wasted cinematic potential.
I see where you’re coming from and I agree that it sucks that Storm (especially Shipp’s version) never really reached her potential. But I feel like Scott’s mishandling was more egregious than Storm’s if that makes any sense. Like, at best, Cyclops was Jean’s boyfriend and that was essentially the peak of his characterization when, in the comics, he has probably one of the most interesting character arcs in all of the Marvel canon. Storm at least felt like an independent character in the movies IMO, even if that potential was never fully realized
I also want to make it very clear that it’s not like I want Cyclops to just take Wolverine’s place and have him be the sole focus of the X-Men movies and everyone else be pushed to the side. In my ideal world, Xavier would take a sort of Nick Fury role where he’s THERE, but the real story is about the actual X-Men, with a focus on Cyclops and Storm and with Storm eventually taking the lead of the X-Men after a Schism-esque event
Yeah I’m the same way, I’ve seen a few and they just aren’t that interesting to me outside of Magneto. I did not like Logan, but that probably stems more from me not liking the others. It wasn’t a bad movie, just wasn’t for me personally. I’m excited to see a new version of them with hopefully a thought-out plan as to how they are going to do the story(ies), and have them interact with everyone else. It’s going to be a fun like, decade haha
I read a fair amount of X-Men comics back in the day and the movies never like fully captured them for me. Some of them were pretty good but I never really loved any of them
X2 still rules, better than at least half of the MCU. Which is a frustrating fact 'cause, y'know, Singer. But, hey, that's what secondhand purchases & piracy is for.
The Last Stand is a mess directed by a trash director who's also a trash person, who replaced a different trash person, which was an awful set experience for Ellen Page. And yet, against all odds, some good things happened in that film. Like everything w/ Angel, & Beast. And, it's also a fun nostalgia watch for me. Not as bad as Origins & Apocalypse, at least? But, I really like Dark Phoenix & hate Far From Home, so what do I know? It's funny to think how Brian Singer, Matthew Vaughn, Joss Whedon, & Zack Snyder all almost ended up directing it. The same (white male) names are just eternally tied into these superhero films. Darren Aronofsky was also in the conversation; too bad he hasn't ended up on one yet, which would probably end up being in bad-but-interesting territory. As someone who really doesn't care for First Class, I'd love to live in the parallel universe where Vaughn did Last Stand instead, & then we got Origins: Magneto instead of First Class.
I actually enjoy all the X-men movies m, including origins and last stand. I don’t think they are all great but I am at least entertained. That being said I haven’t seen Dark Phoenix which is kind of sad because X-men was the first franchise that I felt I had to be there on opening day
I've never been too into these movies. I think the only ones I've seen are X3, The Wolverine, Days of Future Past, Logan, and Deadpool. The last 3 were the only good ones
