Definitely this. I almost melted from the cringe when he told the kid that something was "wicked" like he was in mid 90's kids show on CBBC. Also his English accent is... I can't. Sometimes, it's not so bad. But then he says something and I wince. Was actually the one thing I was most worried about when the first trailer came out.

I assume the yanks don't notice it as much?

I didn't remember the character Crawley nor did I realize that wasn't a statue so this last page has been very informative.

I also found on AV Club's review of the episode some folks who say they know people who talk like Steven does? Someone said Estuary English? I know nothing about this. Anyone have a thought on this?

I just assumed Steven's accent was weird because he's not actually a British person lol

Yeah, was thinking that may have been the case. Doesn’t stop it being annoying though haha

Yeah idk nothing about it annoys me personally but I definitely feel bad for people who are annoyed by it

I mean, I know that. Not really why I'm asking.

I guess my point is it doesn't quite matter if he's speaking "Estuary English" or whatever because his accent doesn't need to be a real accent.

Okay, but I'm still curious about it.

Like, to clarify, I'm not asking because I care about it in relation to Moon Knight. I know why what's happening in Moon Knight is happening and the effect they're going for.

I'm asking because I saw people say this and I thought, huh, is that really a thing? So I thought I'd mention it over here and see if people have any thoughts on it. Not in relation to Moon Knight, just as in relation to a thing that exists.

I know nothing about English accents. I'm fascinated to learn more.

English accents are fake and English people aren’t real.

Oscar said he crafted the accent based on american actors putting on cartoonish british accents in the 60s to give the impression something fake/off is happening with the character. it works imo but is still funny/dumb to hear something so bad

The animation was noticeably bad during the car chase. Everything was bouncing around like it was made of plastic. Overall I enjoyed the episode though. I know absolutely nothing about Moon Knight so im pretty hooked.

I’m pretty sure the show will reveal that “Steven” is not a real Brit and just an Alter that thinks he is, so his English accent isn’t suppose to be legit.

Feige must have extreme confidence in this show if he didn’t have Isaac sign multiple deals

    lol

"I remember fighting for that [steak] scene. That scene was written by me and [consulting producer] Sarah [Goher], and I knew that I was never going to know Steven unless we had that steak scene," Diab told The Hollywood Reporter. "That is the moment when the audience is going to say, 'It’s the first episode, but I’m in love with this character. It's done.'"

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Estuary English, I believe, is the accent David Tennant uses playing the Tenth Doctor/Kilgrave. if I'm right about that then... yeah, Oscar Isaac as Steven sounds nothing like him lmao, but maybe Tennant is just better at doing the accent

I actually kind of like the idea that Marc has just ended up in London and thrown this accent together from informational videos and British people he's met on the street and that's why it sounds so janky

Yeah very much enjoyed the setup in the first ep. Hawke’s character putting glass in his shoes(?), the Egyptian mythology, and the steak scene. I’m in baby.

  25. I didn't grab my phone for one second while watching this and that makes this quality TV. Oscar Isaac was great.
