They're basically writing Steven to be the POV character to Marc's more experienced "main" character. Good way to gradually introduce the audience to this part of the world without having the obligatory "best friend who's only around so the smart people can dumb it down for them" character IMO
Absolutely loved this, and definitely left me wanting more. Hate that they only started us off with one episode
Anyways, as someone who knows nothing about Moon Knight other than a couple small cameos in Spider-Man, anyone recommend some good comics to start with that don't require me to comb through decades of material?
I like Bendis and Maleev’s series. His different personalities are different Avengers and the art is phenomenal. Lemire’s series is what the show is mostly based on and that’s really good too. They both have collections on Amazon that collect the whole thing for only ~$25.
Lemire's run is one of the all-time best I've read, and definitely a massive influence on this so far, but it's not the most accessible. a lot of it hinges on your familiarity with the original Moench run and directly references it. if that's the way you want to go, I would recommend going through the high points of Moench before moving onto Lemire - the former can be a bit dated, but the art is stunning and the issues with Stained Glass Scarlet, Morpheus and Black Spectre hold up today on the other hand, if you're looking for a quick primer without all the lore baggage, I'd actually say try the new run that's currently ongoing by Jed McKay. I've only read the first 6 issues myself, but it's a lot of fun, and kind of lightly resets the character so it's an accessible read unlike Lemire. I would personally say avoid Bendis and Bemis' runs at literally any cost, but that's just me
I read the first “Epic Collection” of the Moench stuff. It’s out of print now and pretty hard to find, so I didn’t recommend it. I haven’t read the new run yet. It’s on my list.
all of Moench (including a bunch of Moonie guest appearances and one-offs that are hard to find) is getting collected in the new Omnibuses, I think they come out next month? so if you're alright with spending some money on them they'll be easy to find. but I'm pretty sure Marvel Unlimited has most of the good Moon Knight stuff online, if you don't want to drop a brick on physical editions?
Thanks for the recs all! I am looking for something a bit more accessible at the moment to fill me in on backstory, so I might check out McKay's run first
yeah I was starting to think it was a real statue that Steven thought was a person lmao. this rules tho
Legit didn't notice the tips xD. I was wondering why that couple would trust their phone with a stranger who is currently talking to an inanimate object lol
