Lockley is 100% showing up at some point. I'm thinking he'll be a pretty big departure from comics Jake which is why they're stringing out this reveal so long
Wouldn’t be too surprised if the hoodie look ends up being Jake. Plus they haven’t actually said who set up the date in episode 1, but we know it wasn’t Steven and Marc is (was?) married so…
pretty sure he says something about trying to call again later on his first call, implying that he’s just leaving messages for whatever number he’s calling. Ringerverse pod noted that the numbers on the missed calls on Marc’s phone skips a few, so maybe Steven is calling that phone (giving Marc intel on Steven’s doings) then Marc is deleting those messages.
The first two episodes are certainly interesting. Not sure I’m hooked yet but intrigued to see where it goes.
I always wonder who actors of characters in universe can contact to understand how things work. Like can Chris Hemsworth call Oscar or one of the producers and ask a question lol
Oscar_Isaac: hey guys can I ask you a question about Moo Knight BEST_AVENGER: this mf said Moo Knight America's Ass: lmao User HAIL FEIGE has set Oscar_Isaac's nickname to Moo Knight
The mandarin does sound terrible, but I think it works that the character has bad mandarin. He is playing an act for his cause. I doubt he seriously focuses on his mandarin beyond small talk with mandarin speakers. At least that’s the logic I used while watching it.
I do really like that he corrected Steven when he asked if it was “Chinese.” While Mandarin is just a dialect, it’s a very supportive statement for anyone who speaks the language outside of China. Not sure if that was the intention, but you’d hear the same comments in Singapore and Taiwan.
You're probably right, and I don't really have a stake in this myself, but the way I interpret Simu's criticism is that it's a matter of representation still being an important issue, so to not even show any care in trying to include accurate Mandarin is illustrative of a continuing problem.
Sometimes it’s hard for me to tell if Simu is just teasing or making a joke because he acts that way in many interviews. Showing accurate Mandarin is important, especially in projects like Shang-Chi that are about characters who do know the language and grew up with it. If Wenwu or Xialing spoke it poorly that would be an issue, but Katy speaking it poorly is used as a joke/point of relevance for Wenwu’s ideas. Just like with the bad British accent for the Steven character, I think the faulty mandarin for Author is part of the gig. But, yeah, it’s not a big issue. I don’t have that much of a stake. This is just my head canon as I think Marvel does it intentionally instead of just being careless.
I actually also agree with this. I think if he was serious he might've said more, but instead he just made the joke and dipped. But there are people taking it seriously, because.
I usually don’t like the “it’s bad on purpose” defenses, but for stuff like Steven’s accent and Arthur’s bad Mandarin, I buy it
Yeah, he is usually blunt when he is serious. He straight up said he won’t be signing Master of Kung Fu comics at conventions because of the problematic nature of them. No joking along with it.
This is really making the case for more self contained stories. Trying to relate this to the MCU would be so convoluted
I don't know. I could definitely (but I don't expect to) see Gorr being in a post credit scene in the final episode.
