this and Little Women are easily my most anticipated for December can't wait for this film to break my heart!!!
when Wallace Shawn showed up I almost audibly yelped , he and Laura Dern are MVPs in this and in life; Julie Hagerty, Merritt Wever and Martha Kelly were delightful too, I love that Martha just basically played her character from Baskets Scarlett and Adam were both great and had great chemistry where you could see how they loved each other and also see them drifting apart I wish we got more of how Nicole felt about her silly teen movie and her sci fi tv show I tried my hardest not to think of this movie as autobiographical but Nicole had so many elements of Jennifer Jason Leigh, grew up in LA with parents in the industry, and his muse relationship with Greta that I couldn't not I had the same problem I have with pretty much every Noah movie Greta isn't involved with that I know I don't need to like characters but there his protagonists are often selfish jerks, and I think it's just harder for me to watch a guy just be completely self involved and gaslighting
The father in the Squid and the Whale is really hard to rewatch. Murderers and terrorists in movies are more empathetic than him.
This fuckin movie y’all, i am in tears. That being said, I wasn’t expecting all the humor throughout, what a film.
Also ScarJo was pretty devastating in this. Was that scene where she explained her marriage to Laura Dern uncut? I think it was.
Man I’m gonna be really bummed if Joaquin wins best actor. I’d honestly vote for Driver for the “Being Alive” scene and no more. But of course there’s so much more.
I really loved this. My favorite of 2019 so far, next to Parasite. This is definitely Baumbach's best, and I say this as someone who loves The Squid & the Whale and Frances Ha.
I’m fully down for a Baumbach ranking! Frances Ha Mistress America Marriage Story Kicking and Screaming The Meyerowitz Stories Greenberg The Squid and the Whale While We’re Young Margot at the Wedding Haven’t seen Mr Jealousy.
Marriage Story The Squid & the Whale Frances Ha The Meyerowitz Stories While We're Young Kicking and Screaming Have yet to see the others, but everything else is on my watchlist.
I realized a few years ago when I was struggling with still watching Woody Allen movies that Baumbach is making Woody Allen movies better than Woody Allen now and it made it a lot easier to drop him.
