I liked it for what it was, cheap popcorn flick, but it could be tainted because it was a fun night in general at the drive-in.
Lucy is real bad. Who had the moronic idea to make an action movie where they are absolutely no stakes or tension? If she’s literally God then watching people attack her is incredibly boring
The same could be said of the invincible John Wick. It's a really fun movie people enjoyed at the time it came out. Now everyone's backsliding.
John Wick is by no means invincible. He is constantly getting hit / stabbed / shot. He explicitly *loses* fights a number of times, especially in the last movie
Love the John Wick films from a technical standpoint, but God, I can't get into the plot and lore at all.
So I’m a child of divorce, a very contentious, difficult one at that, and as such I chose to sit on this one for a bit until I had the time to watch it by myself. I’m glad I did that. I was doing okay for the most part. The end of the argument scene, Charlie singing, and the letter were all very moving, but I burst into uncontrollable sobbing at the very end when she ties his shoe. It’s a point of mutual understanding and continued love my parents never came to and never will and it just shattered my heart. That’s what I lost and still mourn to this day and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that represented onscreen in such a simple, understated, profound way.
That made me go back and watch a few scenes from this movie. Still powerful. Also, I miss Parenthood.
I wish I would have known about this before I bought the Criterion edition of Portrait of a Lady on Fire last week lol
