Marianas Trench is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 2001. The band consists of members Josh Ramsay (lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, pianist, occasional drummer, and songwriter), Matt Webb (lead guitarist and backing vocalist), Mike Ayley (bass guitarist and backing vocalist), and Ian Casselman (drummer, percussionist, and backing vocalist). The band has released four full-length studio albums, the most recent titled Astoria released on October 23, 2015, along with 2011's Ever After, 2009's Masterpiece Theater and 2006's Fix Me. Their third album Ever After was nominated for a Juno Award.
Astoria never quite clicked with me in the fall, but it's happening now. There are some real gems on here.
"It's the 3rd of October, you should come over..." Happened to randomly be listening to Astoria today having forgotten that line. That album still bangs. Probably my favorite pop album of last year.
This band will go down as one of the most baffling non-mainstream bands ever for me. It amazes me they're not gigantic.
I'll never know why these guys didn't fully blow up. There is something about them that annoys me though. They have such talent but they've been writing the same songs for like 8 years now.
I'm Canadian and I feel like their time has passed here as well. I'd like to see what Marianas Trench could do if they diversified their sound as bit - they're better than Hedley-quality music but they seem to have settled into the same groove. Catchy as hell band though. "Haven't Had Enough" should've been gigantic. If there's a huge Canadian band who really should make it in the US, its Arkells
Masterpiece Theatre and Ever After are my two favorites from them. Haven't listened to Astoria since it was released.
Just wanted to say I'm finally listening to Disintegration and man it's so good. I'm trying to get into classics from prior periods since I've never really put much of an effort to get into the history side of things.
Same here. I really, really need to listen to more "older" stuff Also, I thought Disintegration was very good but I've only listened to it once. I can be really terrible about revisiting records, even ones I enjoy
