And yeah this album really picks up with Wish Your Were Here. From then on, it’s a pretty close to fantastic MT album

@Jason Tate I'm stealing your thing.

This album reminds me a lot of It's Always Sunny season 13. Some episodes that are just as good as what came before it, but overall just a little lacking comparatively.

However, as Jason helpfully pointed out in the IASIP every week, these songs in a few years will slot in perfectly right next to their other stuff. Especially if you throw their catalog on shuffle (not a great band to do that with though, lol)

Pretty much agreed with some in here about it being fine but nothing stellar. It’s a good album, it’s a nice addition to their already consistently good-great catalog, but it isn’t quite MPT or Astoria or Ever After

    Nope. Supporter

I've always known of this bands existence but i've never really listened to them much before so I can't speak to the quality when comparing it to previous albums, but, how in the hell are they not massive? This is some insanely catchy pop/rock that operates in the same sphere as many of the other mainstream acts and does it much better imo

They’re pretty big in Canada, but yeah, somehow they’ve never fully crossed over into the States. Check out Masterpiece Theatre and Ever After, your mind is gonna be blown haha

Y'all have been talking about closers in here but acting like No Place Like Home doesn't exist.

That vocal layering in the first part? The four or five key changes during the lyrical reprises? C'mon y'all, shit's great

Yeah I was a little harsh on it. Not my fav on here, but definitely not my least favorite MT song.

Haven't been able to get into this album yet... Astoria grabbed me right away and I was hoping this would do the same. Hopefully a few more listens pulls me in more.

Finally gave this album a listen because I forgot about it after "Only the Lonely" came out. I like a lot of the songs, but when I look at the album as a whole it doesn't stand up to their previous ones. The typical MT concept album magic is missing.

Does the production sound cheaper too? Who Do You Love came on shuffle today while I was in the shower and that song is just so much better than almost anything on this album haha

Hmm. I'll have to pay closer attention to the production quality next time around. That could be part of the *something* that felt missing! Even though I do really like some of the new songs, it amazes me how much better Astoria is.

Yeah, this album is fun for sure and the only reason I am meh on it is because of the incredibly high bar the band set for themselves

Love love love the last two tracks and Echoes of You, where the haunted house aesthetic really comes through the same way the 80s theme permeates Astoria. After one listen this didn’t grab me the way that album did but I’ll keep jamming it. Even though this band writes a lot of immediately catchy pop songs, I’m surprised at how many of their songs are growers

Don't Miss Me is the biggest grower on here for me

So this album filled an interesting little niche for me: MT songs that I put on when I don't have time to get sucked into an entire album :crylaugh:

For real, it's held up better for me than I expected. Still don't really like Your Ghost, but the "hey" at the beginning of Eleanora always gets me pumped.

I’ll have to give this another listen. Was definitely disappointed with the album as a whole, but could see myself enjoying a few songs when consumed by themselves.

Album was one of their first “dips in quality” as a whole. There are songs on that are still fantastic though

Man I stayed up late the night Astoria came out and just laid on my couch and listened to the whole thing. Loved it from the start and has only grown on me since.

Damn, I still love that album. They dropped off quite a lot for me unfortunately after Ever After minus a few odd songs.
