Marianas Trench - Phantoms (March 1, 2019) Album

Always catchy music from this band

 

Can’t wait. Astoria was my favorite album from them. I’m excited to see if they’ll top it. Looks like this one has a haunted house them, which could be cool.

 

I think Ever After is still my favorite

 

Ever After is an absolute, Stone cold classic

 

Was not on board until after the first chorus

 

I’m...not sure how I feel about this one. It’s good, but maybe like it’s trying too hard? Idk, I’ll come back to it tomorrow.

It’s definitely a different vibe for them though!!

 

I really dig the second verse when his voice goes up the octave

 

I like it a lot more than I Knew You When!
Yeah, it might be a somewhat generic typical love song, but hey, nobody does them better than Marianas Trench.

 

After listening to it this morning, I’ve come around! interesting placement, since the second song on the album is usually a B-A-N-G-E-R e.g. Burning Up, Haven’t Had Enough.

The second verse is fantastic, the soaring vocals and guitar lines are all top notch. I’m still iffy on the “oh”s in the prechorus, and the actual chorus leaves just a little to be desired, but it seems like they’re really trying something different, and that makes me extremely excited.

As usual, I have a feeling these songs are going to sound much better in context.

Also, side note, but funny that the single cover seems sci-fi, since the first thought I had when listening to this was MT doing poppy Coheed lol

 

Definitely has an Imagine Dragons-sounding aspirations, but Josh's posts on Twitter make me appreciate it.

He said there are no synths in this song, just guitars through effects pedals

 

Loving this. Tracklisting is up on apple music. Kind fo weird that the first track isn't >6 minutes long, but I'm here for it.

 

Hm. That's definitely my least favorite Mariana's Trench song I've heard.

Not my favorite MT song or anything but the bridge is great and Josh kills it as usual.

("Shut Up and Kiss Me" is the worst MT song by a country mile, IMO.)

I’d have to go with something on Fix Me

 

Shut Up is just... rough. It's fun, but there are only so many times I can hear "shut up" before I have to skip it.
However, I definitely agree about fix me. Some of those lyrics really do not age well.
