Same. I could care less about the drama of why song A is better than song B. I just like revisiting the discographies.

I'm with you both on that. It's a fun exercise in revisiting a band's discography, but doesn't need to be a big dramatic dealio.

If I'm counting correctly, does that make 10 people now? If so, I'll likely start the bracket tomorrow or Monday (busy weekend!)

I’m in. The only album I know by heart is Astoria so I’ll use this as an opportunity to check everything else out. I played Fallout at an open mic yesterday

Good stuff! Thanks for joining in. Gonna try to launch the bracket tomorrow (aka Sunday, I'm on the West Coast).

Alright B Team, it's time to get started. I edited my initial post with the rules and that, but will repost below. First round to follow.

    Rules:
    1. All participants can only vote once per round.
    2. Every round will last up to 48 hours, depending on how close the matches are and how many people have participated. I will lower this to max 24 hours once we get into the rhythm of things.
    3. As I want to participate too, I will add my votes at the very end of the round, so I will break any ties that exist.
    4. You must make a choice for every match-up in a round for your votes to count. If you haven’t heard all of the songs, then go on Spotify/Apple Music/YouTube and check out the songs you aren't familiar with before choosing.
    5. I tried my best to avoid byes, but in some cases they needed to happen. All brackets are randomly generated, so I didn't personally choose these match-ups.
Let's have some fun! Feel free to give rationale for why you choose the picks you did.

This was my first time listening to these songs except for Decided to Break It and Say Anything. Wow. Not sure how much I'll want to revisit some of them because of the explicit subject matter but they were all great

I agree to an extent but it’s also important to get in his head when he was writing these songs. Say Anything for example is about him struggling with severe depression and it reaching its peak after a nasty breakup. He even goes so far as talking about cutting himself.

Totally. I knew from his Wikipedia page that he suffered through a lot, but I didn’t expect it to be verbalized so explicitly. I really respect that it was, but I just don’t think I’m at a place where I can listen to it right now. The lyrics that are directly about his eating disorders are especially tough

Bummed that Vertigo is losing. That drum fill from the bridge back into the last chorus is so dope.

About 20 minutes left in this round! Will try to update as close to then as possible - might have a client come into the office in the next few mins so could be slightly delayed.

    First, my votes.

Skin & Bones - I love Push, but Skin & Bones is so powerful and I will always remember the first time I saw them perform it live... chills.

September - Too many memories associated with this song to vote against it, but this is probably the hardest match-up for me. Alive Again is incredible.

Vertigo - I adore Feeling Small, but Vertigo has been one of my fave early MT songs since the start.

Low - Merely a preference, I like both songs.

Alibis - I love Decided to Break It, and the music video was my fave back in high school. But Alibis is a top tier Trench jam.

Say Anything - My first intro to the band, so it will always hold a spot in my heart. Great track on its own, as well.

Fix Me - Sicker Things is my least favourite song in this bracket, so no shock here. Fix Me doesn't rank much above it, though.
