Listened to this once or twice when it came out, but I've been revisiting it in anticipation of seeing her in a couple of weeks, and I really, really like it. She's playing at a new (very small) venue about fifteen minutes from my house, which is officially the shortest distance I will have ever traveled to see a major touring artist by...a significant margin. It's so strange, it feels like a huge deal to me that she's coming to this venue and it doesn't appear to have much traction at all. Definitely a "summer stage with tribute bands" type place.
I think she lost a lot of momentum because of the pandemic. The 2020 tour was scheduled in some big ass venues, and then it just didn't happen. I don't think the albums since have popped in the same way, in part because of her schism with country music, and so she's playing smaller places now. It's too bad, because this album cycle is really strong, IMO.
Yeah, it's a bummer, though I will say - this venue she's playing does appear to be a bit of an outlier. She's at Leader Bank in Boston the night before, which is of respectable size. I think I'm just thrown for a loop because this place is only in its second season and is very much just getting their feet wet with trying to book some artists with name recognition. I'm not complaining, though! Can't be mad about being able to see her this close when I'm used to traveling anywhere between 90 minutes -3 hours for most shows I want to see.
Wound up scoring front row center for the show I was talking about for about half of face value. Really excited to see her!
