I called it as a possibility last week. Called it again just now when the old man started talking about the prowler.
Agreed it would be extremely forced if they continued it. This was a perfect full circle. I really like how this show captures hope in reconciling with family, intimacy among tragedy, confrontation of trauma—all after an extremely traumatic year of COVID where grief ran high and physical affection was altogether absent.
Very good ending to a great show. I think I liked that it was much more about the characters than it was about resolving the murder mystery. I did think it was a little odd that we didn't get any other scenes with Erin McMenemin's father (the guy with the amazing mustache) once it came to light that his close family members were heavily involved in her death and it's coverup. My main critique of the show as a whole is that they overplay their hand trying to muddy the waters and make so many people seem like a suspect. They probably did it a few too many times, or they just did it too clumsily compared to how great the show handled other stuff. Some of the stuff like Dylan chasing the dead girl's friend around town with a gun don't really make a whole lot of sense once the mystery is basically resolved, and really seem like they were shoehorned in to just juice up the suspense and keep the murder mystery going at that point. Actually, a lot of the best friend's actions don't make a hell of a lot of sense throughout the show, but I suppose that's realistic. Teenagers are gonna act like teenagers even when you're trying to investigate a murder, and people are going to lie to you and make your job harder for all sorts of other reasons other than only specifically to cover up their involvement in the actual killing.
