Watched the first three episodes and am pretty roped in. Late to the accent talk but I think Kate’s nailing it. Very grateful to 7 years in California changing me from “wooder” to “water”
Just started this, got kind of emotional seeing Phyllis Somerville. Didn’t realize she had anything still to come out. The whole cast is great, tons of my favorites. Into the Broadchurch vibe and this doesn’t seem slow to me. If anything the first episode has a ton going on all at once. I doubt it’s an intentional reference, but I recently watched That Championship Season so I have it on the brain, and this kind of reminds me of that. It was all about a championship high school basketball team from PA coming back for their 25th anniversary and getting into all of their personal issues and failures in life. Obviously not a mystery thriller, but the comparison caught my attention. And shout out to Jill Eikenberry.
I need to watch this because I guess Mannequin Pussy is a band in this and they play their actual songs so I have to watch.
they aren’t. there’s a stand in band that plays covers and name drops them to the point where it’s a running joke but the band hasn’t made an appearance yet
Just watched Episode 3 and I think so far this just keeps getting better and better. Everyone on Twitter is talking about Evan Peters in that drunken bar scene, and he was absolutely awesome, but the part that really stood out to me was the look Kate Winslet shoots him when he says maybe he'd rather stay over there with her. Holy shit.
Oh wow. I'm on episode 2 and the scene of telling the father about Erin. Done so, so so well. Holy shit. The show just started and it made me cry. The slow burn of episode 1 was smartly crafted. Who knew. Taking your time...building an atmosphere...establishing the characters....it makes you care. Toss in some A+ acting. Kinda shows you why HBO is still king in my eyes in terms of reliable quality and not quantity
Some of these attempted accents are ruffff. Not everyone around here has that exaggerated of an accent!
Very odd score throughout this ep, haha. edit: Yeah, this ep makes me think this show might be bad edit edit: lol that ransom reveal? Yeah this show sucks
I dug the episode. Maybe my expectations are lower than people’s here but i’ve been enjoying this show for what it is so far. Besides, only four episodes are out. Very well may be that the Freddie reveal will build to something later on.
This show is firing on all cylinders for me right now. The only part that really threw me off was the end of the previous episode. I found the whole ransom subplot to be pretty dumb and poorly executed, and the Katie Bailey reveal felt extremely clunky and cheesy, although I can't really put my finger on the reason(s) why... I guess just having her say her name like that felt like a very uncreative and lazy way to relay / reveal that information to the audience, but I suppose we haven't really seen that character yet at all so a visual reveal wouldn't have really cut it.
