Same. Giving it a shot bc of the cast and location, but it was super slow and HBO really stinks when it comes to sticking the landing with shows like this imo, so the slow burn doesn’t work. Pretty humorless and bleak, which is obviously on purpose, but also not entertaining. Winslet’s accent was less bad than I thought but she really lays it on thick at times
I feel like this show is trying really hard to be The Fall, The Killing, Marcella, etc but lacking what makes them watchable. Then again, its only one episode.
yeah it seems like most screeners got the first three pilots for miniseries are often not the best episode. to be expected.
They get an A just for getting the Philly/Delco accent mostly correct. (i haven't actualyl watched the show, just got intrigued because I heard them using the accent and looked it up and saw it's supposed to take place in Delco and they made it a point to learn the accent and it's one of the hardest accents to learn lol)
I haven't watched any episodes yet, only the trailer, but I don't hear the accent at all... Is it kinda similar to a Massachusetts / Boston accent, and that's why I'm just not hearing it...???
The Delco accent is DEFINITELY there. Though I think Winslet's "o's" are more Baltimore than rural PA.
Bradley Cooper (a philly area native) nails it here about 1:15 in. This is pretty much what it sounds like. Some of the rest of hte video is hilarious too. Winslet has done pretty good with it, hitting the "o"'s and stuff. She drops a "wooder" too which is classic Delco region. I grew up saying "wooder" for the longest time. And "crick" instead of "Creek". Edit; oops forgot the youtube link
