Excited for whatever is to come and sorry to anyone hoping this post was news lol. I'm a huge Mansions fan and also found Chris from Emanuel's top 8. Even chatted with him a few times on AIM back in the day I'll chime in on the Doom Loop conversation. While there are songs I really like (Climbers, La Dentista, 100 degrees, Out for Blood, The Economist), I was devastated by how underwhelming this record was for me. Only a couple of these songs do I rank as some of their best. Personally, I expect a certain sound from Chris and this record was not it. Deserter was good but I only listen to a few of the songs when they come on. "One of Three" is perfect though Someone also mentioned the self-titled. That is a great record and "Great Big Plan" is one of my favorite Mansions' songs. Chris also has a song called "She Said" that was on their very first ep/release that is awesome. Top 12 for me (couldn't leave any of these out): Millions of Pieces Dig Up the Dead Tangerine (Alternate Version) (See below) Never Enuff The Constant (See below Seven Years You Got Cool Call Me When It's Over Wormhole Out for Blood Unwell When I sleep I'd love to hear anyone else's top 10. I don't know anyone else (besides me ex) who even knows this band so I could always chat about them lol
ever since my last post i've been revisiting their discography and obsessing over how good everything is. I don't know which entry I like best between DUTD/DL/Deserter, but they're all I've been able to listen to lately. Even songs that I didn't like that much before are blowing me away right now.
i'm trying to make a top 10 but every song i think of is replacing the #1 spot so i think i need to come back to this later
Nice! I too found Chris through Emanuel's top 10 on Myspace. Love Emanuel and miss them so much (Black Earth Tiger is criminally underrated). I like Doom Loop quite a bit but I don't think it was fully realized. Deserter, on the other hand, was quite meh to me. I never put it on. I'll need some time to think of my top Mansion songs.
While I love these songs, Chris released most of them multiple times before he got signed and NBF came out. I remember being really excited for him to get signed and then NBF only had like 2 new songs on it (Talk talk talk and Holidaze). I probably would've liked it more if I hadn't listened to all the others for 3 years already
yeah I mean, I suppose that's a bummer for you specifically, but I think the album is still his best album regardless of when the music came out
Top 15 Mansion songs: Holidaze Tangerine On My Way Unwell Close That Door City Don't Care Miserable Without You (I know it's a cover but still) You Got Cool (criminally underrated gem) Call Me When It's Over Climbers Flowers In My Teeth La Dentista Out For Blood (despite the abrupt ending most hate lol) The Economist 100 Degrees
Dig Up The Dead will always be Chris's best record but I actually really love Doom Loop. Listening to it now and wow - so damn good.
I read somewhere that Out for Blood ends abruptly because basically that's what the person the song is about did to him. You might've heard that already but learning that allowed me to enjoy it more. On My Way is a great track as well. Forgot about that one I don' think Chris ever confirmed this but "100 degrees" is a reference to Death Cab, correct?
Given a lot of similar stylistic choices within the album, like the moodiness of Flowers In My Teeth and the second verse of Falling Down, the cut in Out For Blood doesn't bother me. I like it a lot, especially when you take into consideration the album art is literally cut into nonsensical sections.
I never heard the reason but if that is it - well done Sir Christopher! I have come around... I like the ending now. My apologies to everyone in this thread.
