I personally found the humor pretty in-line with the absurdist quality of the film. There were some instances that felt Lynchian in the way I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or feel unsettled by my very urge to laugh. Just my opinion though. I highly recommend you watch Beyond the Black Rainbow, the director’s debut film, for a full dose of surreal horror (with little to no humor).
I deleted my post because I realized the person did not take issue with Cheddar Goblin so my calling them whack was unnecessary The tonal shift is the best part of the movie, Cage getting so fucking drunk and high in the washroom is peak cinema imo
That's an excellent scene. I felt so bad for the dude and was like "he's not going to drink the whole thing, is he?" but my dark side was hyped af and cheering him on lol
hi so i am here to say that after two viewings of this, my love for it has bloomed. also, i was re-watching some black mirror with a few friends and we watched crocodile and i realized that the main character is andrea riseborough so that was cool and then i thought more about mandy and it led me to this thread
Definitely one of my favorites, all time. Hopefully it inspires others to take risks and trust fully in their vision.
speaking of shudder, they just released a new series called Visitations (its a podcast) where Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah (of Spectrevision) chat with genre filmmakers and Panos is one of the episodes. havent listened to it yet, but hopefully its good!
