No it's a very old term. A shill would be like if there's some dude hocking something on the street and someone in the crowd pretended to be amazed by that product, but actually was in on it and is making money from the sale. Again, absolutely not what Mandy Moore is doing in this situation.

Bro you used the wrong word and I innocuously said so, it's ok. And, no, it's not a new word, not even the meaning of it is new. In the context of social media people still use it with the same definition.
