I don't know why, but the term "researching" has got me super hyped. Would love a concept record from these guys.
Maybe "announced" is a strong term, they kind of buried it in the email they sent about the Swiss Army Man soundtrack being released.
In March or so they posted a picture on Twitter of them in their home studio working on 5. I'd imagine that's when they recorded demos, and have been "researching" and recording it since then. Probably are closed to finished with it.
I really doubt it'll be out this year, there's no need to rush something like that. I'd bet it's a mid spring or early summer release in 2017.
is the Swiss Army Man OST a weird listen without watching the movie? I see that Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano are featured on a lot of songs
Not really too much. It's pretty sparse. The Cotton Eye Joe and Jurrasic Park stuff won't make too much sense without getting the context from the movie, but for the most part you can listen without watching (Still think you should watch the movie though cause it's one of the best movies of the year)
This soundtrack is pretty f'n weird. I know it probably works way better with the movie, but I was thinking we'd get more songs with vocals and lyrics and Andy sounding lovely. Oh well, still nice mood music.
From an interview in the Atlanta Journal Constitution: Q: What's up next for the band? Hull: We’re going to make a new album in September (their first since 2014). We wrote it in this cabin in Asheville earlier this year and started putting together the pieces. It’s a really ambitious project. I’d say a bit theatrical. We’re going to record in Asheville. There was a vibe being up there. We wrote the album about a town and we were up on this mountain sort of overlooking a town the whole time we were there so we figured we’d go back to the source.
